Go to sfgate to read an article about Ken Watanabe, the ‘Samurai guy’!
A little and funny piece from it:
Watanabe needed all the strength he could muster to enact “Samurai’s” grueling battle scenes, which required two months of filming in New Zealand. He yelled himself hoarse as the “commander” of 500 extras, but when Watanabe was in good voice, he and Cruise shared some very special song-and-dance moments.
“Those scenes we had to do many times, charging on the horses. In between, I’d go sing ‘Close to You’ by the Carpenters, and Tom would join with me. Then we go back to the set and get on horses and yell, ‘Arrrggghh!’ “
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!

Ken Watanabe is amazing. I think Tom was great, also, but as “Katsumodo” Ken just leaps off the screen.
I never knew anything about Japanese culture or the Samurai, and never heard of Ken Watanabe until I saw this film, which, by the way, was FANTASTIC!
Now I want to see more movies with Ken, but since this is his first work in English, I guess I’ll just have to wait!

I was most pleased to see Mr.Watanabe in the powerful role of the samurai leader Katsumoto, and I wait (most impatiently) for his upcomming role in Batman 5, and for his future roles. Finally…An actor who can make me feel so much pride and honor, just by looking at him.

Ken is brilliant. Hot. Sweet, and funny.
I can’t wait to see more of this man on screen. He makes me sweat.

Like many of you guys i first saw Ken in The Last Samurai. Since then i’ve been feverently searching the internet for any morsel of detail about him. I don’ t know about the rest of his fan base but i find him hugely interesting, deep and massively attractive. I can’t wait to see him in Memoirs of a Geisha and Batman 5.
