Tom Cruise’s new thriller, “Collateral,” will open the eighth annual Urbanworld Film Festival Aug. 4 in Manhattan.
Cruise plays a contract killer who hijacks Jamie Foxx’s taxicab. Jada Pinkett Smith and Mark Ruffalo also star in the movie, directed by Michael Mann, which is scheduled to open in theaters on Aug 6.
“‘Collateral’ is the perfect film to open this year’s Urbanworld,” festival founder Stacy Spikes said in a statement Monday. “This picture illustrates what the term ‘urban’ truly represents in 2004. Urban is about sensibility, not just ethnicity.”
The five-day festival will include live staged reading, panel discussions and feature, documentary and short film screenings. It also will have the Actor’s Spotlight, with previous honorees including Samuel L. Jackson, Billy Dee Williams, Vondie Curtis Hall and Rosie Perez.

People Magazine
Wow, this has been one helluva week for Cruise, now hasn’t it? People Magazine named Cruise one of the Most Eligable Bachelors:
TOM CRUISE
Age: 41 Height: 5’9
Next up: The Thriller Collateral opens in August
Why we love him: Twenty-one years after Risky Business, he’s still a sure thing: the all-American hero with that incandescent smile.
Perks: He’s a one-woman man, or at least a one-woman-at a time man. Plus, he makes a mean spaghetti carbonara.
Risks: How do you stack up next to his exes Nicole and Penelope?
Dateability:
High: He’s back on the market.
‘I like relationships. I enjoy that dynamic.’

Forbes celebrity list
A lot of articles to read about the Top 20 of the Forbes annual celebrity top 100 (for example CBS News). The Boston Channel narrows that down to the top 10 on the list: Mel Gibson, Tiger Woods, Oprah Winfrey, Tom Cruise, the Rolling Stones, J.K. Rowling, Michael Jordan, Bruce Springsteen, Steven Spielberg and Johnny Depp. If you’re wondering what money they’re making, read the story by The New Zealand Herald.
Other news: Cruise holds out on new Impossible movie:
Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise is believed to be stalling over the upcoming third Mission: Impossible movie because he has yet to see a script. The 41-year-old is due to start shooting the blockbuster in Germany later this year, alongside Scarlett Johansson and Kenneth Branagh.
But a source claimed, “The cameras have to roll in July but so far there is no script. There is supposed to be a rewrite going on but nothing has moved for weeks. Tom is very concerned about it. He arrives in Germany in September, but there’s no guarantee it will be sorted.”
The Denver Post reports that James Lipton (who is that) celebrates the 10th anniversary of “Inside the Actors Studio”. To mark the event he’ll interview Ellen Burstyn, Tom Cruise, Billy Crystal, Susan Sarandon and Robin Williams, and replay bits from the first decade, in a two-hour special.
Sp you guys crushed my bandwidth and caused my website to go down. I had to remove the video. And I still can’t upload to this server. It gives me errors all the time. Ah that’s painful. Well at least a few of you had the chance to see the vid. I will upload it again, just don’t know where. For now, I hope my domain gets back online.
But at least Tom is worth it.
Oh and about the Los Angeles Confidential magazine, I’m on it but judging I live in Germany that may take a while, I’ll keep my eyes open.
Okay so download the video of Tom at the MTV Movie Awards 2004 here (sorry, link has been removed, see above why). Oh boy, I hope my bandwidth won’t suffer.
Thandie Opts Out of ‘M:I 3′
Thandie Newton turned down the chance to reprise her role in the upcoming Mission: Impossible 3 sequel – so she can write a new movie with her husband. The British actress lit up the big screen alongside Tom Cruise in 2000′s Mission: Impossible II – but Thandie has forgone the chance to return to the action franchise. Instead she is occupying herself writing a screenplay with husband Oliver Parker, after becoming frustrated with Hollywood. Newton – who is currently starring alongside Vin Diesel in The Chronicles Of Riddick – says, “It’s the occasional film that just reignites my love of acting. I can go through months where I just want to quit and it’s funny the films that do reignite that love.”
Our beloved Tom Cruise is gracing the cover of the Summer 2004 issue of Los Angeles Confidential magazine. You can view some thumbnails from the photoshoot and read an extract from the interview here. Looking gorgeous as always if I might say so.
On another sidenote – that video I promised you guys from the MTV Movie Awards is currently being uploaded but to another server since this one is kinda slow and uploading 9MB takes some time. I will post the link here then. There’s also something wrong with the media section of the site, lots of dead links and an Elijah Wood background!?! Annie, maybe you could have a look at that? Okay, until later then.

On Friday, June 18, director Michael Mann and Tom Cruise made an appearance at Hollywood’s Pacific Theatre as part of the Los Angeles Film Festival to talk about their upcoming movie, Collateral. The evening was called “Michael Mann’s Los Angeles: Realizing Collateral”. One of our readers, ‘Kevin Copelan’, attended the show and filled us in on what we missed (Minor Spoilers Ahead):
I attended this special evening at the Pacific Theater in Hollywood. Tom Cruise, Michael Mann, and actor Barry Shabaka Henley were there, and Kenneth Turan of the L.A. Times was the moderator. Jamie Foxx was a no show because his grandmother was ill. It was a full house with not one seat open in the whole theatre, and they started by showing clips from old films that depict Los Angeles. The first clip shown was Kiss Me Deadly (1955) chosen by the moderator, followed by Touch of Evil (1958) picked by Mann. Cruise picked a clip from Sunset Boulevard of a body in a pool, and Beverly Hills Cop was picked by Barry Shabaka Henley.
They showed a lot of extended clips from Collateral–the look of film is amazing! Michael Mann told Turan that 85% of the film was done with a digital camera so that they could manipulate certain scenes for the film. The Korean disco scene two-thirds through the film is a real keeper. Jada Pinkett Smith plays a taxicab passenger that Max, Jamie Foxx’s character, is making a play for. That scene probably occurs before Max picks up Vincent, the killer played by Tom Cruise.
The evening finished with a Q and A session and an extended trailer, which I believe has not been shown before then. In closing, there is no way this film can get a PG-13 rating, since it’s too violent.
