Ray Charles Tribute
The Star-Ledger says it’s been confirmed that director Steven Spielberg will film parts of Tom Cruise-starrer The War of the Worlds in New Jersey. Here’s several clips with the locations:
What is known so far: Both Ferry Street in Newark and Kennedy Boulevard in Bayonne will see filming take place there, likely in November.
“In Newark, they’ve been in the Ironbound section, at the area called Five Corners on Ferry Street,” Friedman says. ‘They’ve been in there talking to all the store keepers, and they’ve got quite a lot of money in their budget to compensate them for shutting down during filming. They’ve even opened up a temporary production office in the Ironbound.”
And in Bayonne, the production has secured permission to build a gasoline station on a Little League ball field off Kennedy Boulevard — and then blow it up.
There is also a private home in Howell that the production has selected as a film location.

The Video
The video is working. Don’t panic! The server has been going up and down, but I’ve already contacted my host to find whats going on. If you try downloading and it gives an error, wait a few a minutes and try again.
As for the videos that we have posted already, they’re not available at the moment. We might put them up again in the future, but at the moment, we can’t put them up (it’d eat all the bandwidth and we wouldn’t be able to put up any other new video until the end of the month!). And, I don’t have time to send the videos to anyone, so please don’t ask.
You can go in the forums and see if anyone there can send to you.

WoTW casting news
Newcomer Justin Chatwin is in talks for a coveted role opposite Tom Cruise in Steven Spielberg’s The War of the Worlds, an adaptation of H.G. Wells’ classic novel for Paramount Pictures and DreamWorks.
The Hollywood Reporter says Chatwin beat out several young actors for the part, which casts him as the son of Tom Cruise’s character. Their strained relationship is reportedly a significant plot point in the film.
Tim Robbins will play astronomer Ogilvy, while Miranda Otto will play the wife of the main character played by Cruise. Dakota Fanning will portray their daughter.
Chatwin starred in Spielberg’s mini-series Taken in 2002.
- “Collateral” was the top scorer, “Wimbledon” headed the United Kingdom for a second weekend, and “Shark Tale” kept up a sturdy pace in early bows in a weekend at the overseas boxoffice that was typically lackluster for the early fall.
A batch of new entries barely made it to the starting gate, but a number of holdover blockbusters and midbudget films added to their international cumes as they chugged along the international track.
Bolstered by five new openings, including France, “Collateral” jumped to the front with a weekend total of $8.7 million from 1,853 screens in 12 countries, lifting its foreign gross to $36.8 million. The Tom Cruise starrer pushed “The Village” to second place ($8 million), ending the M. Night Shyamalan-directed film’s five-week hold as the top offshore performer.
“Collateral” hit the top of the chart in France with $3.7 million from 492 and registered $542,000 (from 51) in Belgium and $559,000 (from 87) in the Netherlands. “Village,” which reached an international cume of $115 million, held first place in Spain for a second weekend, taking in $2 million for a market total of $8.4 million.

Robbins & Otto Prepare for War Source: Variety October 3, 2004
Tim Robbins (Mystic River) and Miranda Otto (“The Lord of the Rings” trilogy) are in talks to join Tom Cruise in director Steven Spielberg’s The War of the Worlds for Paramount Pictures and DreamWorks Pictures, reports Variety.
Dakota Fanning will portray the daughter of Cruise’s character. Production is being fast-tracked to start shooting in November for a June 29 release.
Based on H.G. Wells’ legendary science fiction classic, “The War of the Worlds” (published in 1898), the film is a modern day version of what many critics agree is the definitive model for alien invasion stories. David Koepp wrote the film’s script
