Fade In Magazine
Do you know the Fade In magazine that was published a few months ago? Scans are here, well, that issue, which had Tom on the cover was the biggest selling issue of the magazine – EVER! How cool is that? Below is the press release I just received.
TOM CRUISE COVER CAPTURES CONSUMERS AS FADE IN MAGAZINE BREAKS NEWSSTAND SALES RECORD
—Annual Oscar Issue Features Unprecedented Ten-page Interview With Hollywood’s Biggest Star—
Los Angeles, CA (March 28th, 2005)—FADE IN – the only consumer magazine for film enthusiasts interested in a more revealing, comprehensive look behind the scenes of the entertainment industry as well as in-depth interviews with their favorite stars and filmmakers – announces its 2005 Awards edition (Vol. 8, No. 2) the highest selling issue in the publication’s nine-year history. Featuring an unprecedented ten-page Q&A with cover subject Tom Cruise, FADE IN’s Awards issue has sold a remarkable 86.3% of all newsstand and bookstore copies to date, breaking the previous sell-through record of 64%.
“We’re excited to announce that FADE IN’s Awards issue is the best-selling edition since the magazine’s 1994 inception,” said Editor-in-Chief Audrey Kelly. “Because Tom Cruise is Hollywood’s biggest movie star ever we knew that the cover would draw consumers at the newsstand, though we weren’t expecting an almost 90 percent sell-through. We’re extremely proud of this achievement.”
In addition to the Tom Cruise interview, FADE IN’s Awards issue also includes The Movies and Performances That Mattered in 2004; The Truth About the Academy Voting Process; The Top 25 Soundtracks of the Year; interviews with Mark Wahlberg, Liam Neeson, Jamie Foxx, Imelda Staunton, Kevin Spacey, Colin Farrell, Pedro Almodovar and Cate Blanchett; and many more.
Published for Hollywood’s high profile creatives, film enthusiasts and those aspiring to break into the industry, FADE IN delivers exclusive behind-the-scenes coverage and in-depth Q&A-formatted interviews with the industry’s biggest names. Honored as Best Movie Magazine of the Year by the Los Angeles Times and The Washington Post, FADE IN is published quarterly with a 600,000 combined circulation and newsstand price of $4.95.

Premiere April 2005
I’ve added scans of the April issue of Premiere magazines, thanks Archie and Val. Click here to view them.
Some quotes I’ve found from the guys about each other:
IOL says Steven would have made WotW earlier if it wasn’t for Independence Day:
“I said: ‘Oh man, this would make an amazing movie.’ When Independence Day came out I said: ‘Well, maybe I won’t make it,’ because they kind of picked the bones of that and put me off for a while.” But a desire to work with Hollywood hunk Tom Cruise brought back his urge to make the film. He adds: “I got interested in it again just in the course of trying to find something to do with Tom.”
And Tom on working with Steven (ContactMusic.com):
Tom Cruise has praised legendary director STEVEN SPIELBERG for always knowing exactly what he requires of his actors, so not a second is wasted on set.
Cruise, who has teamed up with Spielberg on MINORITY REPORT and the upcoming WAR OF THE WORLDS remake, was surprised at just how economically the film-maker approaches his craft. He tells British magazine HOTDOG, “Steven just is fast. Some people think, ‘Well I gotta take a lot of time to figure this out.’ No. We show up on the set and he’s deadly accurate in his choices and the direction.”
I guess these guys have a LOT of fun and satisfaction in their jobs working together! I wonder which project will be next!

Death Race 3000
Tom and his co-producer Paula Wagner are going to produce the movie “Death Race 3000″, a remake of the 1975 cult classic Death Race 2000. Empire Online:
“Like all good exploitation films, it was a thickly disguised satire on corporate control of a nation’s love of bloodsport – like Rollerball (also 1975) without the boring talky bits, and a lot more visceral action… in this case, pedestrians being run over as a means of scoring points for the drivers. In a word, brilliant.
The remake is being produced by Tom Cruise and Paula Wagner (so it’s going to attract a decent budget), Jeremy Bolt, Anderson, and the best news of all… Roger Corman! So if 3000 can stay true to 2000′s exploitation roots, we might have a bundle of fun on our hands. Don’t get your hopes too high just yet, though, as P.W.S. has already mentioned changes in tone. “The original was so much about decimating pedestrians that the actual race was almost irrelevant, and I want to restore that” he says. Oh, an apparently it’s not going to be set in the year 3000, either, updating only as far as 2020. ”
M&C.com reports almost the same.
