  1. MovieSleuth Says:

Be sure and check out “Billy’s Blog” on that Access Hollywood page. It gives some background on the interview that sure would have been nice to have included in the show.

  2. pete Says:

i saw tom on access hollywood and was interested when he started talking about helping people what would he tell someone with health and motivational problems?

  3. Dave Says:

I can take a guess as what he’d say. I’m a Scientologist and like helping people as well.

  4. Dave Says:

Interesting - someone taking mind controlling drugs accusing something that helps you think for yourslef being a “mind controlling cult”. That’s funny.

That’s ok though. The Drug Market pushes a lot of false information, so it’s totally understandable.

The following link has all the answers. Click on it.
    http://www.cchr.com/issues/drugs/hoax/index.htm

I used to have depression and anxiety attacks myself.

  5. Layne Says:

I am in disbelief that Tom Cruise would criticize Brooke Shields and her issues with depression. Post-partum depression is a disease that cannot be “cured” with a vitamin. He is completely ignorant and should stop insulting others when he is not educated on mental health. I think it is a testament to him that he found scientology and it helped him with his dyslexia; however, mental health issues (ie depression, schizophrenia) are diseases that require medication. Unfortunately, I have now lost all respect for him after he criticized Brooke’s need for medication and then her career!! How vicious! I used to like this guy a lot but I will NEVER watch any of his movies again. The world would be a much better place if we were less judgemental and didn’t feel the need to criticize everyone.

  6. Liz Hunter Says:

Hooray for Tom Cruise defending a no psych-drug approach all over the media! Yes!

I’ve educated many people to the dangers of psychiatric drugs such as Ritalin used on children. The ONLY time any of them ever became enraged instead of delighted was when they (guiltily) defended the dangerous “quick-fix” to the natural, drugless (albeit, they had to work a little) methods available now. If nothing else, he’s given Brook Sheilds a “moment of pause” whether she admits it or not, and perhaps she’ll never take another psych-drug again.

Tom is a true spiritual samauri.

  7. dee Says:

of all the idiotic irresponsible uninformed comments i have heard lately, tom takes the cake. post partum depression is due to a chemical imbalance in the brain and can cause dangerous side effects if not cared for properly. he should keep his religion and arrogant comments to himself!

  8. Ann Says:

I find it incredible that Mr Cruise thinks he has the right to judge Ms Shield for her choice of treatment for her “postpartum depression”. Has
he given birth? Mind your own business.
Also, his questioning her career! She’s performed on Broadway — how about you Tom!?

  9. Ann Says:

To jen: (and all other critical people)

You seem to be a really vicious and critical person yourself. WAY worse than him.

I think its a shame that everyone thinks that this guy isn’t human. Someone asked his opinion and he gave it. They asked about Brooke Shields on purpose to try and get a comment from him. The only problem is, his PR person should have had editing rights to edit out anything the public wouldn’t think was politically correct. Instead his PR people just tossed him to the wolves and let the press ask him anything they wanted.

I don’t think he meant to say anyting mean, it’s just that in his position, he can’t be like everyone else, and can’t just spit out his opinion.

Some people here are acting like he said everyone with mental illness should die and rot!!! He said he feels other things could help them better. What’s wrong with that!!!!! If you don’t agree just don’t agree and get off it already.

If your pills were REALLY working, then you should all have a healthy opinion to this like the one I”m posting. It seems to me these drugs you are defending, should keep you from feeling so down right negative and nasty.

He’s NOT perfect. He’s just a guy, but everyone expects him to BE perfect. Maybe some of you critical peop;le who seem to ALL be soooo understaning to everyone else’s problems, should try and be a little understanding that someone as rich and famous as him COULD actually have some problems too. Like the whole world being critical of everything he says and does.

  10. Tasha Madix Says:

I am soo glad that somebody finally spoke up against the drugging of children in order to get them to behave. We as a society have gotten away from letting our kids be kids and run around and be truly tired at the end of the day. I had PPD after the birth of my second child and I wouldn’t take Psychiatric drugs. I am not a Scientologist but my sister in law is a natural healer, she practices reflexology and Reiki. She helped me through it with herbs, vitamins and natural foods.
I, personally am sick of people burning Tom Cruise for his relationship with Katie Holmes. So what if she is younger than him, my husband is 30 years older than me and we have the best marriage. If he is happy then he should be able to sing it from the rooftops!!!!
    I LOVE TOM CRUISE!!!!!
Thank God for a truely honest person in Hollywood!!!!

  11. Ritz Says:

I just think Mr. Cruise should know that what is said in front of a camera is forever and he could realy hurt someone. (Brooke Shileds or anyone else going through the same thing for that matter) He should have spoken to Brooke Shields himself if he felt that strongly about his stand on antidepression medication. Now I hope that the millions of people with depression, Bi-polar disorder or other problems do not stop taking there medication because Mr. Cruise thinks it’s wrong. He is not helping anyone he is only adding to the negative outlook on getting help for hormonal, emotional or mental problems. I for one am very disappointed.

  12. Gwennie Says:

There is misinformation about almost anything and everything out there. Whether it is what Scientology is or isn’t or what modern psychiatry and medications are or aren’t.

If Scientology works for Tom, that’s fine. But when he begins campaigning against medical practices that save millions from a life of misery and even death, then I have a problem with it. He is doing much more than just stating his opinion.

After a 14 year battle with bipolar disorder, I know that certain medications (not all) have allowed me to continue to live a relatively normal life as opposed to being totally incapacitated. Part of my regimine includes injections of Vitamin B-12 because I have a condition that doesn’t allow proper absorption through the stomach and B-12 is what carries oxygen to the brain.

I do not believe in handing out psych meds like candy or pacifiers. And I would not allow a school to tell me that I have to put my child on ritalin. But there are some children who do need help and that should be up to the family itself.

If a child can be born into this world conjoined with it’s twin, a parasitic head or even fused legs(mermaid syndrome), certainly the brain itself can be flawed in some way and need correction. Just as a diabetic may need insulin, there are those who need medication to regulate their brain chemistry.

Scientology is on a crusade to bring down the psychiatric community. No one is forcing them to seek psychiatric counceling or take medications. What I don’t understand is why they feel the need to “save” the rest of us.

For everyone who wants to post a comment on whatever is going on regarding Tom: Stay respectful! You’re entitled to an opinion and may post that but within the borders of decency! If it’s not, it will definitely be deleted!
That also means for everybody else that feels the need to respond to comments that go too far - thank you, very nice, but you can consider such comments to never been written because it will be deleted so you can ignore it and go on enjoying our site!

  14. Laura Says:

Take a look at this quote:
“When you talk about postpartum, you can take people today, women, and what you do is you use vitamins. There is a hormonal thing that is going on, scientifically, you can prove that. But when you talk about emotional, chemical imbalances in people, there is no science behind that,”.

The authoritative and blanket statement that there is no science behind emotional, chemical imbalances is absolutely not true.

    According to the Mayo Clinic:
“Depression after childbirth can vary in duration and severity — ranging from mild to severe forms. Many new moms experience a mild, short-lived depression, sometimes called the baby blues. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists estimates that 70 percent to 85 percent of women experience the baby blues after childbirth. This condition includes symptoms such as sadness and anxiety, which usually begin in the initial days after childbirth and last for about seven to 10 days.

About 10 percent of new mothers experience a more severe form of depression called postpartum depression. The associated feelings, such as sadness, anxiety and restlessness, can be so strong that they interfere with daily tasks. Postpartum depression can occur at any time within about the first six months after giving birth. If left untreated, it can last up to a year or longer.

In rare cases, an even more severe form of depression, postpartum psychosis, can develop. Some of the symptoms of this mental illness are similar to those of postpartum depression, but they’re more extreme.

Experiencing depression after childbirth isn’t a character flaw or a weakness. For many, it’s a normal part of giving birth. The good news is that for most, a combination of self-care measures and medical treatment can improve symptoms.”

Vitamins are certainly an option to good health, but there are times when other measures can be employed. None of us has the right to judge.
The bottom line is that we are all entitled to our own opinion, but we must also know when to shut up.

  15. tara Says:

    To Laura:

You have the quote wrong. He said there was no science behind the drugs. He said there WAS a hormonal and chemical imbalance and he’s right. Research the drugs, and you will find that NO ONE and I do mean NO ONE really knows what they actually do to the brain chemically, or anything else for that matter.

He didn’t call it a character flaw, he said she shouldn’t promote it (like writing a book for millions of people to read) She did this to make money, please. For all you know Brooke Shields was never depressed and wrote the book for all for money. Don’t be so gullable everyone.

  16. Anonymous Says:

Tom..I don’t give a crap who he is..Not that I don’t know..but he is human just as anyone else on this planet..I am disturbed by his beliefs…Not a believer in Christ..hope he is right because if he is not..he is getting all his rewards in this life…and saving nothing for his after life with Christ..This life is but a vapor compared to eternity..Has the poor man sold his soul for the short term reward? The bible says yes he has. Tom..you are worth more than fame could ever give you in this life. God gives all of us a plan and purpose..entertaining others is great..but not our reason for being. Why would a higher power..need us to entertain each other??

  17. Valerie Says:

I am a believer in Christ too, but judging Tom as you had done in your comment is not Christ like. We (Christians) are to point out God’s words and guide to life in the Bible, but we are not to judge. All we have to do is pray for non Christians and hope that someone close enough to him can reach his heart and open his mind to the one and true God. Condeming someone you do not know personally is not the right way. I don’t know much about Scientology in which Tom believes in, but I’m sure there is good in it to.

As I read Tom’s bibliography, it touched me to hear the hardships he has experienced as a youngster, having dyslexia, moving from place to place, and who knows other personal things may have happened that made him the way he is, but he has turned out pretty successful, and currently happy in love. I just pray that he will find his way to the good news of Christ and I believe that Katie Holmes may show him the light. I beleive I read it somewhere that she is Catholic, she is also young, not so experience in life, not spoiled (yet) of the glamour of Hollywood, likes similar things that Tom does, all in all it looks good for both Katie and Tom to team up, and hopefully get married. I wish them both luck and God’s blessing. If it is God’s will so be it.

  18. Chris Says:

Tom is getting great P/R from all of this. I’ll still watch his movies if they get reviews, I won’t toss my RAIN MAN DVD into the trash. But it has confirmed what I always suspected — that his life is a mess. Coming out criticizing another celebrity’s use of medication is STUPID, but it gets you publicity. It is the same low level tactic used by boxers and wrestlers. Every Scientologist I know defends their organization by attacking other organizations/people. If it works for you Tom, great. Leave Brooke Shields out of it. Like Michael Douglas’s character says in THE AMERICAN PRESIDENT, “She’s way out of your league.”

  19. Jean Litz Says:

Re: Cruise’s comments to all of us regarding depression and antidepressants….it is appalling that anyone could be so ill informed and close minded. It is hard to fathom someone would make a comment that impressionable fans could give credance to and suffer harm despite the fact that Cruise is not a mental health expert. This is both unimformed and irresponsible. People accept his Scientology beliefs….he should return the favor. If emotions were as limited as he suggests, life would resemble his films. Jean Litz

  20. tara Says:

Has anyone thought about Tom’s side to things? Why do you think most of Hollywood are Scientologists. Most of us ordinary people are NOT actors. Tom and Brooke Shields are actors.

Tom was saying that if he were put on drugs he wold never had had the “acting career ” he has. Wouldn’t you all agree that anitdpressants may alter one’s artistic acting ability. I certainly would agree. It’s no wonder he preaches against them. He seems to be having some troubles. Maybe doctors have offered more drugs to him. But if he takes them, he would probably have to give up his career, it would alter his artistic ability.

This is probably what he meant when he referred
to Brooke Shields. She can’t really be and “actress” and have that type of sucessful career on antidepressants.

You all shouldn’t be so quick to judge another person. You are all juding him. Doesn’t make much sense to me.

  21. Lorraine Sukhu Says:

    Dear Mr. Tom Cruise:

Congratulations on your new love, she’s very beautiful.

I watched you on Oprah a little while ago and decided to try and see if you would be so kind to help us.

My nephew in Queens Village, New York, comes from a family of one other brother and single mother. His dad is disabled. Justine had to put himself through high school working at MacDonalds. He now works for a restaurant until 1:00a.m. in the morning. Until recently the three of them lived in a one bedroom apartment. His mother works two jobs to keep everything going. When I worked I always supported them, but now I am disabled with bipolar mood disorder, so I am unable to help as much. I live on disability. Justin needs a car, since the one that he is driving is falling apart. He found one for $4,000.00 we have all chipped in but we are missing two thousand.

I am kindl y asking you to please help us if you can.
