Phew, it seems that the news about the Japanese premiere being cancelled were false. Paramount released this statement:
“Please note that the story regarding the cancellation of the Japan Premiere of War of the Worlds is completely erroneous and the Japan premiere is still planned.
An official announcement will soon be made clarifying the event details.” […]
