Oscar poster lines ‘em up
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences’ poster for the 79th Oscars features 75 of the most memorable and quotable lines from movie history.
Poster, conceived and designed for the Academy by TBWA/Chiat/Day Los Angeles, features a photograph of the statuette by Albert Watson.

“If a picture is worth a thousand words, then each quote is worth at least 500,” said Academy prexy Sid Ganis. The quotes were chosen by members of the Acad’s board of governors and other Academy staff members.

All the lines showcased in the poster — except one — are from films that received an Oscar nomination for picture, screenplay or both between 1936 and 2005. The only film with two quotes is 1996’s “Jerry Maguire.”

Acad reps said the lone exception among the 75 would provide a guessing game for film fans.
The 27×40 poster, printed on premium recycled paper, uses a black canvas and highlights the quotes in gold metallic ink.
More than 65,000 posters have been distributed worldwide, and the poster is available for purchase through March 12 via the Academy’s Web site or by calling 800-554-1814.

The four quotes from Tom’s movies are:

“Ten minutes to Wapner” from “Rain Man,” 1988

“You can’t handle the truth!” from “A Few Good Men,” 1992

“Show me the money!” from “Jerry Maguire,” 1996

“You had me at hello” from “Jerry Maguire,” 1996

You can read the entire list of quotes at Variety.com.

Happy New Year and thanks for that info. I only feel that the Oscars have snubbed Tom Cruise. He should have won so many Oscars by now. I am happy they used some quotes from his movies. This proves they were Oscar winning movies but the STAR of the movie was snubbed, so I will boycott that poster for that reason. I want to see Tom Cruise holding that statue he so obviously deserves!!!!!!! The poster is great but to me it means nothing unless Tom had won an Oscar by now. He has given so many Award winning performances. It is very sad to me that Hollywierd does not recognize this.

Tom Cruise is the greatest! I wonder where he is righrt now the paps haven’t been able to get photos of him.I think he is in Telluride Colorado with the family! Good so the paps could leave him alone! I hope next year will be a great year for Tom, he is one of the greatest stars out there!

  3. Lili Says:

I too feel quite disgusted about the Academy. Tom’s talent is so much in their face and they deliberately want to ignore it, it’s pathetic. I always felt that by now he should have had at least a couple of Oscars : Born on the 4th of July was an amazing performance, and by a young actor too! His other 2 Golden Globe nominations - Magnolia and Jerry Maguire - should have brought him a couple more, not to mention the superb and moving acting in The Last Samurai. I see jealousy there, honestly, that someone so beautiful inside and out, such an honourable and decent human being could be such a good actor, in fact the best actor of his generation. But he will win at the end, I am sure of it. Paul Newman had to wait until he was 63 to get an Oscar and if you see him in his first movies..WOW..he was truly the sexiest, most handsome and talented man in Hollywood. His performance in Sweet bird of youth would take your breath away, and later in The Verdict he was so moving, but Hollywood waited until The colour of money to give him that recognition. By contrast, some actors and actresses (no need to mention names) get an early Oscar, and then, pftt, it’s flops after flops.
Anyway, Tom has lots of performances in him to give and he will keep astonishing everybody. I am awaiting impatiently the next one, with impressive co-stars Redford and Streep, it is going to be a treat. One day, soon I hope, Hollywood will have to give in, mark my words.

  4. Whitney Says:

So… I love Tom, he’s been my favorite since I was little, and things just don’t change that easily. I think he and Katie are a dope match ( I was a religious DC watcher too) so this is amazing! Best of luck, and much love!

  5. Sofia Says:

so why they don’t give him an academy award????
