Forbes Magazine has just released its 2007 listing of the World’s Most Powerful Celebrities, and guess what: Tom Cruise ranks atop this year’s list, earning $67 million. Rounding out the top five are, in descending order, rock singer Mick Jagger; talk show hostess-producer Oprah Winfrey; rock band U2; and golfer Tiger Woods.
The list measures both the stars’ earnings and their influence within their respective fields. Movie industry analysts say men have the upper hand through career longevity and overall box-office appeal. (voanews.com)

The recent tabloids may claim that there is a rift between newlyweds Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, but good friend Jenna Elfman says don’t believe what you hear.
Elfman put the rumors to rest at the Healthy Child Healthy World Benefit Thursday night, telling “Extra,” “Honestly, they’re happy. They have a great life, and they love each other.”
Meanwhile, “Extra” spotted Katie Holmes canoodling with another man – but don’t worry, it was all in character.

Los Angeles (E! Online) – It wasn’t just 70 million voters and major corporations who were feeling charitable this week.
As the curtain fell Wednesday on the two-night Idol Gives Back special that featured live and taped appearances by celebs ranging from Bono to Miss Piggy, no one was given the boot, leaving the same six contestants to sing it out next week.
“All your favorites are still in the competition,” host Ryan Seacrest informed a positively thrilled crowd. “How could we let anyone go on a charity night?”
On the less positive side, however, that means two of said favorites will get tossed seven days from now. The more than 70 million calls and text messages that came in last night will be added to next Tuesday’s tallies, Seacrest said.
But on this night, that exorbitant amount of viewer participation represented far more than people’s desire to have a huge stake in who goes home. As part of the Idol Gives Back campaign, American Idol’s most prominent sponsors, including Coca-Cola, AT&T, Ford, Allstate, ExxonMobil and Fox parent News Corp., signed on to donate a certain amount of money per vote, all of which will go toward the newly formed Charity Projects Entertainment Fund—which in turn will dole out the green to relief charities in the United States and Africa.
To help hammer the point home, the two-hour special included clips from Randy Jackson’s visit to New Orleans to meet with Hurricane Katrina victims, Paula Abdul’s meeting with local school children whose parents are struggling to make ends meet, and the trip made to Africa by strange bedfellows turned harmonious travel companions Seacrest and Simon Cowell.
“We met some of the nicest kids I’ve ever met in my life,” Cowell said, when Seacrest asked what struck him most about the journey.
Another video showed Carrie Underwood, who also traveled to Africa on behalf of the numerous charities Idol is supporting, performing “I’ll Stand by You” for children left orphaned by AIDS and the scourges of poverty.
And where there are people warring against poverty in Africa, there’s Bono. The U2 frontman met with the six aspiring Idols this week to discuss the importance of trying to give back whenever possible.
“Well, you murdered that one, didn’t you?” the Nobel Peace Prize nominee joked, observing the group rehearse “American Prayer.”
“That’s what the ONE campaign is all about—people who you wouldn’t normally expect, hanging out with each other…like Irish rock stars on American Idol,” Bono then said, getting down to business.
“I don’t know what it is about music, but it whispers in your ear that the impossible is much more possible than your parents and school teachers are telling you,” Bono said. “Don’t remember me, remember the children whose lives you’re transforming…There isn’t one person watching this program tonight who cannot save a life.”
Of course, American Idol tries to inject at least a little established star power into the proceedings every week, but Fox sure didn’t mess around tonight.
While the usual Seacrest-hosted hoopla (minus an elimination) occurred on the regular Idol stage in Hollywood, Ellen DeGeneres hosted the show’s live companion event via satellite from downtown Los Angeles’ Walt Disney Concert Hall.
DeGeneres, who announced that she herself will be donating $100,000 to the evening’s cause, said that “obviously, more money is better than less money, but whatever you can give…You probably have a 20 (dollar bill) hanging somewhere in a coat pocket that you’ve forgotten about.”
Although the name of the game was fundraising, music was still the night’s motivating factor.
Earth, Wind & Fire kicked off the night at Disney Hall with a three-tune medley, followed by the six remaining Idol wannabes—decked out from head to toe in dove-white suits—singing the anthem “Time to Care,” penned specially for the occasion by “We Are the World” producer Quincy Jones, who also conducted the band.
Supplying the basso profundo romance were operatic boy band Il Divo, which serenaded the L.A. crowd with “Somewhere” from West Side Story, and Josh Groban, who crooned his signature “You Raise Me Up,” backed by the African Children’s Choir.
Rascal Flatts sang its aptly named hit single “My Wish,” Annie Lennox performed “Bridge Over Troubled Waters” and, with the help of modern technology, Celine Dion teamed with Elvis Presley for “If I Can Dream.”
Taking a cue from Comic Relief were Ben Stiller and Jack Black, whose musical contributions inspired both laughter and donations.
Stiller, for one, promised to keep singing Little River Band’s “Reminiscing” until the $200 million mark was reached. Considering the loftiness of that ideal, the broadcast reverted several times to satellite clips of Stiller, still singing.
And though Black rocks out frequently, Cowell didn’t think too much of the Tenacious D frontman’s wily-eyed take on Seal’s “Kiss from a Rose.”
“You were better than Sanjaya,” Cowell judged. A rose-bearing Kyle Gass seemed to like it, however.
“I thought that was the best rendition of ‘Kiss from a Rose’ I’ve ever heard,” added Seal, who happened to be sitting right behind Jackson.
And on a night that saw Simon, Paula, Randy and Ryan actually behaving themselves, olive branches were extended in all directions.
Grammy snubs aside, Kelly Clarkson really did make a triumphant return to her roots, belting out Patty Griffin’s “Up to the Mountain (MLK Song),” accompanied by guitarist Jeff Beck, and proving there hasn’t been another Idol quite like her.
Celebs who offered up pretaped messages and/or a clip of them lip-syncing to “Stayin’ Alive” included Tom Cruise, Matt Damon, Madonna (surrounded by children in Malawi), Forest Whitaker (chiming in from Uganda), Teri Hatcher, Eric McCormack, Dr. Phil (“you’ll never stand taller than when you stoop to help a child,” he said), Hugh Laurie (“House has an accent,” Seacrest noted), Helen Mirren, Kevin Bacon, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, Marc Anthony, Kirstie Alley, Shaquille O’Neal, Chris Daughtry, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Keira Knightley, Rob Schneider, Jason Biggs, Helena Bonham Carter, Hugh Grant, the Blue Man Group, Goldie Hawn, LeBron James, Gwyneth Paltrow and, not one to be left out, Miss Piggy.
Throughout Wednesday’s broadcast, viewers could make individual pledges through a specially set up phone line or via the Internet, and clips of the show are available to download from Apple’s iTunes Music Store, with all proceeds going to charity. More than $30 million was raised, including an additional $5 million from News Corp., on a night that Seacrest called “the biggest in Idol history.”
“I know that I’ve said that 63 times before,” he said, “but tonight I really mean it.”
Meanwhile, Melinda Doolittle, LaKisha Jones, Blake Lewis, Chris Richardson, Jordin Sparks and Phil Stacey all get to return next week to rock out with help from guest mentor Jon Bon Jovi. (Source: Yahoo News)
As one of Tinseltown’s power couples, they are used to attending star-studded ceremonies, and hosting lavish dinners. But when it came to giving their daughter Suri’s first birthday party, Tom Cruise and his wife Katie Holmes went for a low key affair – throwing a traditional garden party lunch featuring pizza and cupcakes.
Katie’s mum Kathy jetted into California to attend the family do at Tom and Katie’s LA mansion on April 18, as did one of Tom’s sisters and a nephew. Although the meal was not a gourmet affair, there was an A-list touch when it came to dessert. Guests were treated to cupcakes from Beverly Hills bakery Sprinkles. The designer fairy cakes, which have appeared on Sex And The City, are available in 20 flavours ranging from the traditional chocolate, to the more unusual carrot and pumpkin.
The birthday girl, who apparently loves being outside, was reportedly given a garden gym set from her relatives, as well as a stack of books, balls and dolls. Entertainment at the party included dragonfly and butterfly piñatas – containers filled with toys and sweets suspended from a rope which are broken by party guests – while Suri made her own fun, kicking a ball around the lawn with her Mission: Impossible actor dad.
Little Suri Cruise may not realize the effort involved, but her family made sure she celebrated her first birthday in style.
Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes organized a birthday lunch on April 18 at the Cruise compound in Los Angeles, where the entire clan dined on pizza and cupcakes from Sprinkles bakery in Beverly Hills.
“Suri is walking and talking,” says a source close to the family, who adds that dragonfly and butterfly piñatas were part of the entertainment.
The guest of honor – who, Holmes told PEOPLE recently, “loves just being outside right now,” received a gym set for the backyard, according to the source, along with a stack of books, balls and dolls.
“Tom and Suri kicked the ball around the lawn during the party,” adds the source.
Holmes’s mom Kathy, 60, flew to California for the occasion, as did a sister and nephew of Cruise, according to the source. On April 17, both grandmothers – Kathy Holmes and Mary Lee Mapother South, 70 – were treated to dinner at an Italian restaurant.
Just days earlier Holmes, 28, was in Shreveport, La., where she is filming Mad Money with Queen Latifah and Diane Keaton – and the day after the birthday bash, she and Cruise, 44, jetted to New York City for Cruise’s 9/11 Detox Fund-Raiser.
But Wednesday’s luncheon was a fun break from all the jet-setting – albeit a messy one. By the end of the party, says the source, “Tom, Katie and Suri were wearing chocolate.” (People.com)
LOS ANGELES (April 24, 2007) — Brooke Shields’ toddler Grier Henchy celebrated her first birthday over the weekend – and got a visit from another celebrity baby – Suri Cruise.
Tom and Katie brought baby Suri (who shares the same birthday with Grier) to the baby birthday bash on Saturday at Brooke and husband Chris Henchy’s Los Angeles home.
Also in attendance were Will Ferrell, his wife Viveca and two kids, along with “Saturday Night Live” alumni Kevin Nealon and Chris Kattan.
Brooke had a mermaid and several musicians on hand to entertain the kiddies.
For the proud mom, it’s been a whirlwind year since Grier and Suri were born on the same day at the same hospital.
“It’s gone by so quickly,” Brooke told Access Hollywood.
Brooke also revealed the party was a Tweety Bird themed event since her little one resembles the cartoon character, she said. (Source: Access Hollywood)
LOS ANGELES (April 19, 2007) — Tom Cruise’s latest effort isn’t for the big screen. It’s for the New York police, firefighters and paramedics of Sept. 11.
Cruise was to appear Thursday at a private dinner in Manhattan to raise money for the New York Rescue Workers Detoxification Project, a program he co-founded in 2002. His wife, Katie Holmes, was also expected to attend.
The program, based on principles developed by Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard, offers free treatment to emergency workers who suffer breathing difficulties and other health problems stemming from exposure to toxins at ground zero after the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks.
“Nearly six years later, many are still paying a price for their heroic service at the World Trade Center. This is a profound injustice,” the 44-year-old actor said in a statement to The Associated Press. “This project has demonstrated that recovery is not only possible, but an incontrovertible fact.”
The program has treated 785 workers since its inception, said director Jim Woodworth. Each worker is given vitamins and nutritional counseling and participates in daily exercise and sauna sessions. The program takes about 30 days to complete, he said.
“We wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for Tom,” Woodworth said.
Patrick Bahnken, president of the New York Fire Department’s union of emergency workers and paramedics, said there was some initial concern the program would include proselytizing and religious rhetoric. But the program is secular and results have been positive, he said.
“The majority of our members have reported an improvement in their quality of life,” Bahnken said.
New York City officials say some 400,000 people were exposed to ground zero dust and 71,000 have enrolled in a long-term health monitoring program for people with and without health problems. Most experts believe there are thousands of people still sick years after ground zero exposure. (Source: Access Hollywood)
“Mr. & Mrs. Smith” scribe Simon Kinberg has been tapped to do an overhaul on Fox 2000’s “Hardy Men,” which Tom Cruise and Ben Stiller are set to topline.
Shawn Levy is attached to direct the big-screen comedy, which follows the grown-up adventures of the Hardy Boys, teen detectives of literary fame.
Stiller is producing with his Red Hour Films partner Stuart Cornfeld. Bob Kosberg, who brought the idea to Stiller several years ago, also is producing. The long-gestating project, which has seen several writers on it, revolves around the Hardy Boys, now grown up and estranged, reuniting to solve a mystery. Kinberg will start from scratch and is expected to take the story in a new direction.
The studio is eyeing a January shoot.
The long-running Hardy Boys book series began in 1927 and was written by various ghost writers under the pen name Franklin W. Dixon. The series’ 58 books chronicled the adventures of teens Frank and Joe Hardy, amateur detectives who often helped their father, a private investigator, in solving crimes.

Among the small-screen Hardy projects was the ABC primetime series “The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries,” which ran from 1977-79.
Carla Hacken is overseeing “Hardy Men” for Fox.
Kinberg, whose upcoming credits include “Jumper” for Regency Entertainment/20th Century Fox, is penning an untitled spy project for Fox with Nicole Kidman attached to star.

LOS ANGELES (April 18, 2007) — It’s a double dose of birthday greetings today to Suri Cruise and Grier Henchy today, as both celeb babies turn 1-year-old.
Tom and Katie’s little lady will spend her one-year milestone in Shreveport, Louisiana, where mom is currently filming “Mad Money” with Diane Keaton and Queen Latifah.
As for daddy Tom, his birthday visit may be a short one as he’s schedule to attend a 9/11 benefit in New York on Thursday night.
It’s hard to believe it’s been one year since both babies made their Hollywood debut on the same day, at the same hospital.
“It’s gone by so quickly,” Brooke told Access Hollywood this week. “We’re going to have a party this weekend.”
In fact, it’s a Tweety-Bird themed party since Brooke says the cartoon character resembles her own little girl. (Source: Access Hollywood)
Katie Holmes Is In Shreveport For Her New Film “Mad Money”
(CBS) NEW YORK Tom Cruise is heading to Shreveport, La., where his wife, Katie Holmes, is shooting a new film, Cruise’s rep Paul Bloch confirmed to The ShowBuzz on Tuesday.
Katie Holmes visited a local Target store in Shreveport on Friday, the Shreveport Times newspaper reported over the weekend. The actress is reportedly in town along with stars Diane Keaton and Ted Danson shooting the comedy, “Mad Money.”
It seems Holmes is mixing with the locals just fine. “I met some really great people, and it was nice,” Holmes said of being at the department store. “They did recognize me, and it was a pleasure meeting them. We had nice chats about kids, and it was lovely.”
Holmes told the newspaper she’s “pumped” for the film, which was slated to begin shooting on Monday.
Holmes described her character, Jackie, as a free spirit.
“She’s funny, she’s smart and just a little bit misunderstood,” Holmes said. “She’s involved in this crime, but she’s sort of delighted to just be a part of something and have girlfriends for the first time. She’s a type of person who creates a happier environment than she’s actually in. … I like that about her. She’s a free spirit.”
“I loved it from the second I read it,” Holmes told the Shreveport Times. “I love interesting female characters, and this is full of them.” (Source: CBS Broadcasting Inc)
EDINBURGH actress Louise Hay has landed her first movie role, in a film starring Robert Redford, Tom Cruise and Meryl Streep.
The Murrayfield-born actress, who now lives with husband Ronald Richards in Los Angeles, has spent the past week filming her role in Lions For Lambs, which is also being directed by screen veteran Redford.
The film centres on two army rangers in Afghanistan and Louise, 26, plays a doctor.
It is only her second role, following a part in the popular TV series CSI:NY last month.
She said: “The prospect of working with a legend like Robert Redford was initially very intimidating, but once I knew my lines backwards and forwards, inside and out, I felt sure I could get through the scene.”
Lions for Lambs is still in production, and is expected to be released later this year. (Source: Scotsman.com)
Tom and Katie were out on a romantic date last night (April 10th). Formally attired in black the couple had dinner at Maestro’s Steak House in Beverly Hills, CA. The couple arrived in style in Tom’s classic 1958 Corvette. Dressed up for the night out, Tom and Katie spent over two hours in the restaurant, before heading back home.
They had a little trouble getting the old car started, but hey, wouldn’t you – with all these flash lights and people blocking you while trying to start this oldy! Watch the video here and watch some pics here.
(CBS) Tom Cruise will host a gala fundraiser for a controversial detoxification process aimed at helping 9/11 workers, the New York Post reported Friday.
The actor is a co-founder of the New York Rescue Workers Detoxification Project, which provides those exposed to toxic agents in the rescue and clean-up at the World Trade Center site to a detoxification procedure developed by L. Ron Hubbard, the founder of Scientology.
The regimen treatment, lasting a period of three to four weeks, incorporates vitamin and mineral supplements and cold-pressed oils, as well as aerobic exercise and saunas, rather than traditional medicines. The process, administered by the Foundation for Advancements in Science and Education (a Scientology research group), releases toxins trapped in the fat tissues of subjects.
Its advocates say that detoxification has reduced PCB levels in workers exposed to chemicals at Ground Zero, and that the majority of cases have gained improvements in neurological, muscle and lung symptoms.
According to the project’s Web site , more than 750 men and women have “recovered quality of life and job fitness through detoxification,” since the program began in September 2002.
The project, which offers the treatment to rescue workers for free, initially received the endorsement of New York politicians — and even city funds — until the Foundation’s links to the Church of Scientology were revealed. Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) was one of several who released letters in support who later backed off.
The project is not been endorsed by the city’s fire and police departments.
However, representatives of the policemen’s and paramedics’ unions are participating in the fundraiser, serving on the host committee.
Ed Mullins, the Sergeants Benevolent Association president, said he was impressed after speaking to several firefighters who had taken the detoxification program who claimed it had reduced their dependence on some medications.
He signed on as the event’s co-chair.
“I’ll do anything to help my members,” he told the Post. “I’ve got to try to do something because no one else is doing it.” (Source: CBS)
Dennis Rice has been named United Artists’ new president of worldwide marketing and publicity, CEO Paula Wagner said Wednesday.
Rice has served two stints at Walt Disney Studios, most recently as head of publicity at Buena Vista Pictures Marketing. His move caught several of his colleagues by surprise and was viewed as a signal that Wagner and her business partner Tom Cruise are serious about turning UA into a competitive boutique studio.
Rice, who will report to Wagner, will oversee all aspects of UA’s marketing and publicity efforts for its theatrical releases, home video and other ancillary markets worldwide. He also will work closely with MGM, which will be distributing UA’s films, where he will be reteaming with MGM COO Rick Sands and domestic theatrical marketing president Perry Stahman — Rice, Sands and Stahman are all alumni of Miramax Films.
Rice’s appointment comes as UA, which is now co-owned by Cruise, Wagner and MGM, is ramping up operations. Last week, Wagner named Elliott Kleinberg COO.
“In addition to his distinctive sensibility and strong strategic skills, Dennis Rice brings to the table unparalleled experience in both publicity and marketing at independent companies as well as big studios — a unique combination that makes him the perfect man for this critical job,” Wagner said.
Said Rice: “I’m a bundle of mixed emotions. I’m crazy about the Walt Disney Studios and the great people here. But I am literally thrilled beyond imagination to work with Tom and Paula and to be reunited with Rick Sands and Perry Stahman and the rest of the MGM crowd. It’s an amazing opportunity that I couldn’t say no to.”
Rice said he “spent a lot of time talking to them to understand what their vision is for United Artists and what it is for the films they want to make” and that the new UA’s plans clicked with his own passion for films.
It has not yet been decided when Rice will exit his Disney post.
Disney execs had no official comment but said an announcement of a new head of publicity will be forthcoming.
Rice began his entertainment career at Disney in 1992 as head of marketing for the Buena Vista Home Entertainment Division. In 1998, he moved to feature films as president of marketing and publicity at October Films, then a specialty division of Universal Pictures.
From 1999-2000, he was president of marketing at Miramax, overseeing the marketing campaigns for more than 120 films, ranging from such Oscar contenders as “The Cider House Rules,” “Chocolat” and “In the Bedroom” to the boxoffice hits “Scream 3″ and “Scary Movie.”
In 2003, Rice returned to Disney to take up his most recent post as publicity head at Buena Vista Marketing. He oversaw the studio’s publicity campaigns as well as its Internet and synergy departments.
At Disney, Rice oversaw publicity efforts for such films as “The Incredibles,” “National Treasure,” “Cars,” “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” and “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” as well as the current “Bridge to Terabithia” and “Wild Hogs.” HollywoodReporter.com)
Disney veteran joins Tom Cruise at UA
Veteran movie marketer and publicist Dennis Rice is leaving Walt Disney Co. to join United Artists, the historic film label being revived by actor Tom Cruise and Paula Wagner, his longtime producing partner.
As president of worldwide marketing and publicity, Rice will oversee UA’s theatrical, home video and other promotional campaigns and will report to Wagner, who is chief executive of the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. unit.
Rice said Wednesday that working for Disney was “a Hollywood dream job.” But he said he couldn’t pass up the chance to work with Wagner and Cruise as they reinvent Century City-based United Artists, which was founded in 1919 by silent film icons Charlie Chaplin, Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford and director D.W. Griffith.
“What Tom and Paula are doing at UA is nothing less than pioneering a new approach to moviemaking that will build on a 90-year tradition,” he said.
The company is majority-owned by MGM, which will distribute its films. But it will operate with a substantial degree of autonomy and is expected to soon line up about $500 million in Wall Street financing.
The new UA plans to release its first feature in November, the political drama “Lions for Lambs,” which stars Cruise, Robert Redford and Meryl Streep and is being made for a relatively modest $35 million.
Rice began his entertainment career at Disney in 1992. He then worked for Universal Pictures’ specialty division October Films and for Miramax Film Corp. before returning to Disney’s Buena Vista Pictures unit four years ago.
Over the years Rice has headed marketing pushes for such films as “The Apostle” and “Scary Movie,” awards campaigns for “The Cider House Rules” and “Chocolat,” and publicity efforts for “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest.” (LATimes.com)

Dennis Rice Leaves Disney to Be Marketing Chief at United Artists
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The new United Artists studio, headed by producing partners Tom Cruise and Paula Wagner, beefed up its executive ranks Wednesday, naming longtime Disney marketing chief Dennis Rice as head of film marketing and publicity.
Rice will report to Wagner and oversee the studio’s worldwide marketing and publicity campaigns for feature films and home video, the company said.
At Disney, Rice spearheaded marketing campaigns for the two “Pirates of the Caribbean” films, “The Chronicles of Narnia” and “National Treasure.” He also was in charge of marketing several Pixar Animation Studios films released by Disney, including “The Incredibles” and “Cars.”
Rice also served several years as marketing chief at Miramax, a Disney division.
Last week, United Artists, which is owned by Cruise, Wagner and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc., named Elliott Kleinberg as chief operating officer. (Source: Yahoo)

Since the beginning of this year, reports have abounded suggesting that Sino-South Korean movie “Xiao Ye Dao” would shoot in scenic Dali in southwestern China’s Yunnan province.
Hangzhou-based Youth Times reported on Friday that renowned Hong Kong director John Woo would direct this project with no released English name. The lead actor and actress for the project were named as Hollywood star Tom Cruise and South Korean actress Jeon Ji-hyun.
The movie is expected to begin shooting in April and last for three months.
Director John Woo successfully collaborated with Tom Cruise on the Hollywood blockbuster “Mission Impossible: 2″.
Youth Times reported that part of the crew have prepared film settings for three months at a filming base in Dali.
The movie is adapted from the Japanese fictional animation “The Last Vampire,” set on an American air force base in Japan around 1966 during the Vietnam War.

“EVERY SECOND is a door to eternity. The door is opened by perception,” said Rumi.
How do a nation’s elite rid themselves of a deranged chief executive or commander who is bent on leading the country astray? No, we’re not talking here about our own life and times. We’re talking Nazi Germany.
United Artists announced last week that Tom Cruise will be starring in a World War II thriller just acquired. But no details as to exactly what that meant. We’re here to tell you now.
Movie projects are famous for dragging on, for rewrites, revisions, rethinking. A great project may languish for years. But only a few months ago, writers Chris McQuarrie and Nathan Alexander got together with X-Men director Bryan Singer. They had all worked together on the critically acclaimed movie The Usual Suspects, which starred Kevin Spacey. And then they went to UA with their project titled Valkyrie.
At UA, Bryan met with none other than Cruise and just in the last month, Tom has been set to play the lead as a heroic German colonel, Count Claus Schenk von Stauffenberg, the man who led the “July Plot” to assassinate Adolf Hitler. Singer says: “Originally, Chris and Nathan and I brought the project to UA because it seemed like a good match. UA was founded as an artist-based studio. Tom and Paula Wagner were clearly carrying on the tradition. The film was green-lit quickly. I admit in the back of my mind I always thought Tom would be a great fit for this role, beyond his physical resemblance. We met a few times about production and my desire to offer the part to him crystallized.”
This seems to be one of those adventures that happen only rarely. UA will forge ahead and make the movie early this summer because Bryan is set to go ahead on Superman at Warner Bros. The McQuarrie-Alexander script is described as excellent – with suspense, honor, horror, and history all mixed in together. To some of us it will be heroic history, to youngsters it will be a thriller.
Tom and his partner Paula are very positive and excited about their new professional life at UA. They are already working on their first effort there – Lions for Lambs, to star Tom, Meryl Streep, Robert De Niro, and Robert Redford. The latter also directs. (Source: ToledoBlade.com)
