Friday, January 30th, 2009Jimmy Choo floored by Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes
London, Jan 30: Well-known shoe designer Jimmy Choo’s clientele includes US First Lady Michelle Obama, but he says his favourite is Hollywood couple Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes.
Choo said he was proud that Michelle Obama wore a pair of Jimmy Choo shoes to the inaugural ball earlier this month, but admitted, “Katie and Tom are my favourite customers as they will take the trouble to drop me a thank you note after visiting me to order a pair of shoes.”
“I really appreciate that as they are so rich and famous, but yet remain humble and friendly,” he said, reports telegraph.co.uk.
Choo is now planning to open a network of shoe academies worldwide, with the first to open in Malaysia, his home country.
“It has to be well-planned and reputable. Once it is established, the academy can be licensed all over the world on the Jimmy Choo label,” Choo said during a visit to Malaysia.

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009MADRID (AFP) – US star Tom Cruise said Tuesday he hopes Spanish actress Penelope Cruz, a former girlfriend, will win the Oscar for her role in Woody Allen’s “Vicky Cristina Barcelona”.
“It’s fantastic. I am very excited by her second nomination. I hope she wins,” he told reporters in Madrid, where he is promoting his new film “Valkyrie,” when asked about Cruz’s best supporting actress nomination.

‘Valkyrie’ takes the lead at Australian box office
Tuesday, January 27th, 2009Cruise back on a winning patch
PROVING once and for all that we should never underestimate the popular appeal of Tom Cruise in an eyepatch, his anti-Hitler thriller Valkyrie led the box office charge over the long weekend.
The film took $2.33 million, which was just barely enough to knock off Bride Wars, which managed a healthy $2.25 million in its second week, bringing its two-week total to a hefty $7.1 million.
All other debuts did very well. Another old-timer also proved he has not lost his edge, with Clint Eastwood’s Gran Torino opening at No. 3 with $2.24 million, followed closely by the vampire/werewolf epic Underworld III, which netted $1.9 million. Revolutionary Road had to settle for No. 9 with $1.02 million. Not bad, though the chemistry Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet had in Titanic isn’t quite popping the second time around.
After a meteoric rise fuelled by powerfully positive word of mouth, the arthouse favourite and Oscar hopeful Slumdog Millionaire finally seems to be levelling out. At No. 5, the film, which took $1.5 million across its sixth weekend, added another eight screens but saw its audience grow by exactly 1 per cent.

When he was a child, he dreamed of visiting Moscow and St Petersburg some day, Cruise told the press in Moscow on Monday. The actor regarded as one of the most handsome men in Hollywood was wearing a black pullover, white shirt and dark trousers. Flashing a smile, he said he came to Russia to present his new film ‘Operation Valkyrie’.
Cruise told the press that he also wanted to make a film in Moscow and would come to Moscow again to do so. He said his impressions of Moscow coincided with his expectations based on what he knew of the great Russian culture and literature.
Cruise, 46, arrived in Moscow late Sunday evening. He stayed in Moscow’s hotel Ritz-Carlton that offers a view of Red Square, Bolshoi Theatre and the History Museum. He said he could not sleep, as he wanted to look out the window all the time.
For an American living in California, to be in Russia and see the Red Square is unforgettable, Cruise said.
‘Operation Valkyrie’ directed by Brian Singer was premiered in Moscow yesterday evening in Pushkinsky cinema house.
In the film about an attempt on Adolph Hitler’s life, Cruise plays the main part, that of Colonel Klaus von Schauffenberg who led the resistance.

Cruise Promotes Film in Moscow
Monday, January 26th, 2009
Hollywood star Tom Cruise met with fans Monday on Pushkin Square ahead of the Russian premiere of his new film “Valkyrie,” about a 1944 plot by German officers to assassinate Hitler.
Cruise flew into Moscow on a private jet Sunday and stayed at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel, local media reported. Cruise, who plays Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg, the officer who spearheaded the unsuccessful plot to kill Hitler, told a news conference that he had long wanted to come to Russia.
“I’ve always dreamed of coming to Moscow, St. Petersburg,” he said, RIA-Novosti reported.
The actor cancelled a trip in 2004 for the premiere of the film “Collateral” after terrorist attacks brought down two airliners in Russia. He has already promoted his new film in South Korea, Britain and Germany.
Cruise has long been a proponent of the controversial Los Angeles-based Church of Scientology, though he appeared to have little time for his fellow Scientologists in Russia.
“He is coming on a business trip that has no relation with religion,” said Natalya Alexeyeva, a spokeswoman for the movement in Moscow. “But, by the way, on Sunday we are going to be 15 years in Moscow.”

Movie Q&A with Tom Cruise
Friday, January 23rd, 2009Q DID you know this story?
A NO, I just knew pieces of it. The bomb under the table, I knew how that ended, but I still found it an utterly compelling film. Reading it in history, it was like a suspense thriller.
And to see when we finally finished the film and put it before an American audience was quite an experience.
I’m looking forward to going to Europe and Germany to share it with them also.Q HAVE your feelings changed about Germany since making this movie?

Valkyrie director Bryan Singer praises Tom Cruise
Thursday, January 22nd, 2009VALKYRIE’S director Bryan Singer acknowledges that his leading man Tom Cruise will always draw attention, but he says he has nothing but praise for the A-lister.
He might be best known for comic-book movies X-Men and Superman Returns, but Bryan Singer has been preparing to make an historical thriller such as Valkyrie ever since he was a child.
The director spent his school holidays making 8mm war movies in the back yard with his friend Christopher McQuarrie (who went on to write Singer’s breakout hit, The Usual Suspects).
‘‘One summer he got into a little trouble and he had curfew,” Singer recalls.
‘‘He wasn’t allowed to leave the house at night so I would come over and we started writing
projects together.”Looking back, Singer says he can see little evidence of nascent talent in the films they made at the time.

Last night they were busy at the Berlin premiere of “Valkyrie.” And this evening Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are on the other side of the English Channel giving the Brits their chance to see it for the first time.
The “Risky Business” stud and his “Dawson’s Creek” darling looked blissful, as always, as they posed for the paparazzi outside London’s Odeon Leicester Square.
Cruise wore a tie-less black suit while Holmes kept it conservative-yet-sexy in a multi-textured sleeveless black dress with black stockings and black heels.
And as previously reported by the Gossip Girls, Katie will be returning to New York City next month to film a new movie called “The Extra Man.”
