It wasn’t just any old ceremony when Cameron Diaz got her star on Hollywood Boulevard’s Walk of Fame, it was a star-studded event: Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes and sister Charlie’s Angels star Lucy Liu gathered with the hundred of fans who witnessed Diaz’s honor in front of the Egyptian Theater on Monday.
Diaz, whose My Sister’s Keeper opens Friday, credited her success to her parents and said, “I dedicate this star to the eternal love that my mom and dad shared. It was what has given me the strength and courage to live this extraordinary life, and it was that powers the light that burns inside of me, bright enough for me to be honored today with this star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.”
Diaz, 36, is the 2,386th star to be so honored on the famed sidewalk. Her beloved father, Emilio Diaz, died in April 2008, at age 58. The actress’s mother, Billie, as well as her older sister, Chimene, also attended the ceremony.

About being asked how it feels that Tom and others showed up to support her, Cameron responded that “it’s wonderful” and called them “an extension to my family”. To watch this, click here:

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes will not be in attendance at the 81st Academy Awards on Sunday, Access Hollywood has learned.
A source tells Access that Tom will be out of town. It’s the second year in a row the star has missed the ceremony – in 2008, he spent the day with his son, Connor, at the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series Auto Club 500 racing event.
Though he won’t be attending, Tom has someone to root for on Sunday – “Tropic Thunder” co-star Robert Downey Jr., who is nominated for Best Supporting Actor for the ensemble comedy.
Both Cruise and Downey were nominated for Golden Globes for the film.
It’s been 18 years since Tom Cruise posed as a racing car driver for Hollywood hit Days Of Thunder.
But the actor had no problems reprising the role to help kickstart pre-race celebrations at the Daytona 500 International Speedway.
But this time, Cruise painted a slightly different picture to the young hotshot he first portrayed, preferring instead to play the family man.
Cruise brought his father-in-law and adopted son Connor along for company as he got behind the wheel of the same vehicle used in the 1990 film.
Sporting a pair of sunglasses and leather jacket, the star appears to have aged well, looking younger than his 46 years.
There was no sign of ex-wife Nicole Kidman though, who he met on the set of the film and subsequently married. Kidman’s current husband however, country music star Keith Urban, attended the event to perform a surprise two-song set for reporters. Urban took brief questions from reporters and laughed awkwardly when asked what his favourite racing film was. “Uhhhhh … Cars?” he stammered, choosing the animated movie over the more obvious Days Of Thunder that featured his wife as Tom’s love interest.
Later, Urban and Cruise both attended the pre-race driver meeting. The two were seated on opposite ends, but Cruise heartily applauded Urban when the singer was introduced.
Cruise appeared in good spirits, despite his new film Valkyries being panned by critics.*
However, he could be set for a comeback as he is reportedly pairing up with Oscar-winning actor Denzel Washington to star in The Matarese Circle, a spy thriller directed by David Cronenberg.

*Note: Although the story says “Valkyrie was panned by critics”, the opposite is true: Valkyrie received a lot of praise and scored very well at the box office, despite major competition from block busters like “The curious case of Benjamin Button”, “Marley and Me” and others. Tom appeared on Jonathan Ross’ BBC One tv show. Some details about how it went:
Guests on the TV presenter’s BBC One show were Tom Cruise, Lee Evans, Stephen Fry and rock band Franz Ferdinand.
Cruise, a friend of David Beckham, told Ross he relaxed by watching “a little football”.
“I’d like to do a musical film, we’ll see if I can sing and dance. I might fall on my face,” he added.
Comedian Evans, meanwhile, revealed he would be joining the cast of BBC One’s Doctor Who.
“I’m a professor. They asked me the other day and I said I’d love to do it.”
Fry, posting on Twitter, the micro-blogging service, said: “JR and I discussed Twitter. Hope it makes the cut. Cruise charming.”
Ross used his own Twitter account later, writing: “Hello. That was a fun day and nice to be back. All the guests were so lovely, and funny. Twitter discussed - Tom [Cruise] might sign up!”
Speaking outside Television Centre in west London after filming, audience member John Wood, 49, from East Grinstead in Sussex, said that during one gap in filming Cruise told Ross he never had any time off.
“Jonathan Ross joked, ‘well, you want to try getting banned’ - it was really funny,” Wood said.
Ben Parks, 18, from Sheffield, said: “Jonathan Ross kept quiet for the first two guests but he was really funny with Tom Cruise.
Last night they were busy at the Berlin premiere of “Valkyrie.” And this evening Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are on the other side of the English Channel giving the Brits their chance to see it for the first time.
The “Risky Business” stud and his “Dawson’s Creek” darling looked blissful, as always, as they posed for the paparazzi outside London’s Odeon Leicester Square.
Cruise wore a tie-less black suit while Holmes kept it conservative-yet-sexy in a multi-textured sleeveless black dress with black stockings and black heels.
And as previously reported by the Gossip Girls, Katie will be returning to New York City next month to film a new movie called “The Extra Man.”

Tom Cruise Shows His Hand in Seoul
Tom Cruise participates in a hand-printing ceremony before a huge crowd of fans in Seoul, South Korea on Saturday (January 17).
Along with filmmaker Bryan Singer, the 46-year-old actor is in Seoul to meet with Korean fans and promote his latest film, Valkyrie. (Korea is the only Asian country the two plan to visit on this tour).
Tom has visited Korea three times before, to promote “Interview with the Vampire,” “Mission Impossible 2″ and “Vanilla Sky.”
Blow for Jonathan Ross’ comeback show as Tom Cruise talks break down
JONATHAN Ross’s TV comeback has been thrown into chaos after talks with Tom Cruise to appear on his chat show broke down. Producers are desperate to lay on an A-list guest to pull in the viewers for Ross’s return to BBC 1.
But although Cruise agreed to appear, his management were insistent he could only do so if the show were filmed during the day. And other guests have already been booked for the evening. An insider said the hitch followed rejections from both Daniel Craig and Leonardo DiCaprio.
The source added: “Tom is seen as an ideal guest. He is a global superstar and someone who is unlikely to offend.
“Bosses have not ruled out changing the schedule but at this stage, talks to get Tom on the show are stalled.”
Cruise, 46, will be in London to promote his film Valkyrie, based on a plot by German officers to assassinate Hitler.
Ross, 47, was suspended for three months without pay after he and comedian Russell Brand left an obscene message on the answer phone of Fawlty Towers actor Andrew Sachs.
Tom arrives on the red carpet with his mother Mary Lee Mapother and father-in-law Martin Holmes at the 2009 Golden Globe Awards held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Sunday (January 11) in Beverly Hills, Calif.
Mary Lee looked stunning, don’t you agree?!
Kate was back in New York City, giving her final performance in the Arthur Miller play All My Sons, and flew to Beverly Hills afterward to join Tom at several afterparties.
Tom had the honor of presenting the night’s top honor, “Best Moiton Picture - Drama” to Slumdog Millionaire.
