There were an interview on Access Hollywood, that aired on May 26th, and all week long Access Hollywood showed clips of it, just the ones that would get more attention, and among other things Tom has spoken about Brooke Shields using prescribed drugs.

I’ve been getting a LOT of hate e-mails concerning this, asking me to pass it to Tom, or whatever. I will repeat what’s written all over this website: I DON’T KNOW TOM CRUISE. This site is not official, it’s not connected with him, I don’t have any way of contact him. So, PLEASE, stop sending those e-mails to me. It’s wasting my time and yours, and it really drives me crazy because Tom lives in a free country and he can say whatever he wants. Why does everytime he says something someone doesn’t agree I have to get all that junk mail? I won’t stop being a fan of his work because of something he has said. So, stop those e-mails, I will just delete or be very rude when replaying.

That said, Tom is entitled to have his opinion. He is not the only one that think that using prescribed drugs is wrong and it won’t help you. RESPECT THAT. I don’t know his full point of view on this. I don’t think I will ever know unless he goes and gives another interview or something. Interviews are often edited so the interviewed person can have the aspect that tv/newspaper wants that to have. I doubt that what was shown is the full interview. And quotes out of context always make more damage than they should.

Edited #1: Tara posted on the comments: The full interview is today on Access Hollywood, WSFA channel. It’s on at 12:30/11:30 central

Edited #2: I added the show info on the top of the post, thanks Mary, who was the first person to actually give me any information on the show, and, in the end of her e-mail she said something that is exactly what I’m feeling: Most people should watch the full interview before they judge. Yes, he is a mega star but he’s still entitled to have an opinion. You do not have to agree with him.

If anyone has got the full interview, I can upload it here for everyone else to watch. Just e-mail me.

Edited #3: To anyone who is criticizing my english, please remember that I’m not from USA. I’m from Brazil. I have no obligation of speaking english properly. I make this site for my own entertainment and for those who are fans of Tom Cruise. I don’t get paid to make this website, none of the other staff members do, we do this in our free time. If you don’t like him, click on the X on the right top corner and just stay away, you’re not welcome. I’m not a child and I won’t be taking ANY insult from anyone, especially from anyone that thinks that insult my english is gonna afect me in any way. I will be fowarding any e-mail that comes about this subject to the e-mail ISP as I will consider it spam.
This site is called Tom Cruise Fan for a reason. It’s a website for Tom Cruise’s work. If you don’t like my points of view or his points of view, just leave, I just don’t care.

37 Comments to “Access Hollywood”

  • Here in Belgium there is also a scientific research project that states that vitamines B9 and B12 help handling depression. So I just want to comment on this that it is not a “scientology thing”. Recent scientific studies are concluding the same thing, but because it is new, it is still controversial. Scientists will continue to investigate and bring more evidence.

  • I also read in an interview that he feels that Brooke should have taken vitamins first, instead of immediately going for drugs. There is a difference between “she should have tried vitamins first” and “she shouldn’t have taken drugs”. It’s an important difference that the media doesn’t seem to be able to grasp. Nuance is not their strong thing…

  • You’re right Helga. There is evidence that SSRI anti-depressants like Prozac are also not that effective and many doctors are going back to using older type anti-depressants. There is also lots of herbal remedies which help relaxation and anxiety which also helps depression. I know I suffer depression.

  • Is there any way we can watch the interview online? I don’t reside in North America, so I don’t get to see Access Hollywood.

  • I also think Brooke should have tried other solutions first. Actually I would never take any drug no matter what is happening to me. It is just a sure way to worsen the condition. I know people who started and they have never been the same after that. In this huge world there are many not publicised remedies from the east as well as from the west that are healthy and very effective but are kept silent because the drug producers would loss their income otherwise. Don’t you think this is evil. I will NEVER EVER take a drig no matter what and I will do everythin in my hand to keep my dearest family and friends from taking them.

  • Yeah, the full interview is today on Access Hollywood, WSFA channel. It’s on at 12:30/11:30 central, and yesterday they were just showing part of it to promote it.

  • What and where is WSFA channel???I can’t find it anywhere, on any list of regular or cable, and never heard of it!

  • I just watched it; I didn’t think it was offensive at all. It was really interesting, actually. It was on channel 11 here, i’m not sure exactly…sorry. =( They might repeat it though.

  • It’s on the accesshollywood.com website.

  • Hello, I listen to your show on giving drugs to anyone who may depressed. I feel you are right because that is what they tried to do to me and almost killed me. I hope Tom gets this because I don’t know how to be able to talk to him. See alot of happen when their father disown them and I had a neverous break down, because of what happen to me as kid. i wants the best for my girls and I have no idea how do that . The dr.’s are no help their anwser is medication and to me that’s wrong. Well again I hope you get this. My e-mail address is peanut072767@earthlink.com Thank you for your time. Best wish

  • there is the definitive trailer of WOTW if you are interesting! it rocks!

  • i love tom cruise and all and i thought he was such a nice man and really warm and caring but when i saw this interview i was sooo pissed off .. who the hell does he think he is? just because he’s a big movie star doesnt give him the right to say what works and what doesnt .. he is to full of himself and thats his opinion and he needs to stop this little campaign crap hes doing .. that was a side of him i never saw before and i never want to see again

  • Dear all, I am not american but european. Basically I consider myself a citizen of the world, like the rest of us, and I am totally against the use of drugs because they dont “cure” any mental condition. The fact that someone states he is not for drugs doesn’t mean he is saying the people who are taking them should stop just like that. It might not be that easy once you are taking them as they create a dependency and all kind of side effects. But if you haven’t started, please don’t do it and find real solutions.

Has anyonte thought some illnesses come from the spirit and not from the body and should therefore be treated as spiritual problems of the being? Maybe that is the wall all scientists and medical doctors find when they are investigating and reach a dead end. Maybe that is why psychiatry is a farce that does not have real solutions for the problems of mankind and the only thing they do is to drug people or fry their brains with electroshocks. Didn’t you see the movie “Somebody flew over the cuckoo’s nest”?

  • Alexa, honey, I am NOT an American. I’m from Brazil.

  • Okay – if mental conditions don’t get “cured” by the medication, then should we ask all diabetics to stop their insulin? It doesn’t cure diabetes. Should we ask my grandfather to stop his heart rhythm medication? It doesn’t cure the problem, it only helps it while he is taking it. Shall we ask people with blood clots to stop taking coumadin to thin their blood and let them die of a blood clot to the lung or heart? To say they shouldn’t take mental health medications because it doesn’t cure anything is absolutely ignorant. Many things aren’t cured by drugs. They are developed to help people live a longer and more productive life by “controlling” symptoms, disease, and other conditions.

Tom Cruise has gone off the deep end. I would have considered myself one of his biggest fans until I saw him on Oprah and then with Billy Bush. OMG. I’ve never seen anything like it. He obviously thinks he is someone he is not.

  • As an aside – Yes, he did say that people should get off their medications. He says he has helped people do that.

  • TW
I am not saying that he is right or that he is wrong, what I’m saying is that he has the right to have his own opinion! Just like you have the right to disagree with him.

He is talking about medication for psychologic illness, not for physicial ilness, which is completely different.

This is NOT the place to discuss YOUR points of view, that’s what IMDb.com boards and two hundred nova boards alike are for.

  • Dear guys, You are taking things out of context. You better read the real interview in http://www.accesshollywood.com/news/4537415/detail.html before you continue criticizing things he didn’t say.

Dear TW, where he says he has helped people leave the mediaction, he also says “You have to do it under medical care, under a doctor and (with) vitamins” which makes total sense and you may agree with, right?

But you have also taken my words out of context here above. When I talk about mental illnesses I am not talking about physical illnesses. These are different, right? Sadness, nostalgy, stress, depression -these are mental, emotional, right? Diabetes, heart problems, broke bones, damaged tissues, cancer and others are body problems and should be treated by medical doctors, right? There is a difference here. Emotional problems are not body problems but spiritual problems and they should be treated spiritually. That’s what I think personally and I would never accept psych drugs. Bur we are all free to think and express what we think and I respect the way you think.

  • Sorry Annie, you are right, this is not a place to discuss our point of view.

By the way, thank you for your great work. I love this website. I didn’t know you were from Brazil. What a great country!! I am from Europe – Viva España!!!

  • Sorry. I wasn’t aware that we weren’t supposed to express our point of view here. I stumbled over this web page, and judging by previous comments to mine, it looked like the place to do it! :)

  • Dearest Annie, you re way too intelligent to pay much attention to some ignorant idiots who criiticize your English! it is way better than theirs. And let me tell you that we, real Tom fans, appreciate ALL that you do for us. You have created the Best of the Best fan site. Please keep deleting the insulting (to Tom, you and our intelligence) posts and aggressively negative comments. We do not want to give these people a place to disparage Tom and us fans.
I say :”Annie for President!”….of any country (LOL). She is super, devoted, she is our hero! Love, Love, Love to you Annie.

  • TW, you’re allowed to share your opinion, but if you’re just gonna be picking on what’s been posted here it will go nowhere. Some people like blue other like red. They can keep discussing or they can just accept the fact that people have different tastes.

  • Annie,
This is the best website for Tom Cruise’s fans. I thank you and the girls for your hard work to always keep this site up-to-date. Your English is excellent, and you’re even more intelligent by speaking and writting more than one language.

I watched Access Hollywood and I don’t see anything offensive about the interview. He commented on Brooke Shield because he was asked for by Mr. Bush. Brooke Shield has talked about her postpartum depression in an interview and in her book, therefore her problem is open to anybody’s interpretation. Tom Cruise gave his opinion and I don’t think his answer is putting her down. Tom Cruise can say anything he wants, just like we can say anything we want. Knowing Tom, he is not afraid to speak out about subjects that he believes in it.

I’m Tom’s fan but I don’t have to agree with everything he says, but I don’t hate him because he has many good qualities that I admire. In this site I feel like I meet with people who have things in common, that is loving Tom Cruise. I’m agree this site is not for Tom’s haters, we don’t want them here.

I Appreciate all the works that you have done.

  • Hello people, new here from The Netherlands.

I have to agree with Tom, not because I’m a fan but just because he is right. Four years agoo I was very depressed. I wanted to kill myself. The doctor at the time wanted to give me some kind of drug. I sefused. Why? Because I do not trust anythin in my body other than vitamins and healty food. I started to excersise and eat more healty. And it worked. Now I’m 23 and healty as never before.

BTW: Read the transcript! Above here somewhere!

You don’t have to agree with him. I do though.

  • I takae medication for mental illness. I disagree that mental illness is simply a spiritual problem. one of my problems is definitely chemical imbalance and I have taken medication for panic disorder for 20 years. But I’d be a liar if I said I was cured or that I didn’t other tools to help with my disorder. The other medications are for bi-polar and they don’t seem to work at all. Since last November I have 15 weeks in a mental hospital and haven’t been to work. So I do not agree there is no science behind psychiatry There is but I don’t believe science is all it’s cracked up to be. I think all the doctors should get together and draw up a holistic approach to mental illness including medication, counselling, meditation, relaxation, eastern remedies, diet and exercise whatever. So I agree with a lot of what Tom says especially about Ritalin and disagree about science. I don’t believe in science. I believe we are more complex than bones and muscles and a spiritual approach to health would be better

  • I find it strange that Tom would say not to take any anti depressant, when he was with Penelope she took those medications, she was even admitted to an hospital because of a burn out, that does not mean she is crazy, she was smart to get some help. Good luck to Tom.

  • I don’t think the upset is about the comment on the use of anti-depressants. He is entitled to his opinion as is everyone else. I think the real issue is the comments he made about her career which were totally out of line. When you touch on where someones career has gone, you touch on a very personal issue and for that I think he needs to apologize.

  • only that: TOO MUCH ADO FOR
    N O T H I N G

  • TW,
see, your comments are still here. You stay polite so it’s ok. Annie is a very good person.
I agree with you. Disagree with Tom; but the thing is he is push by a strikening force, as you may know, you can’t beleive what it is for him; I don’t think he realize what he is doing.
But to say that he is an entertainer d don’t have to “think and talk” is discriminatory. And you said you wasn’t a doctor or a psy, still you give your opinion.
I think you should consider this.
    I respect you, goodbye!
WOTW trailer is out! it really rocks

  • What Tom says about the damage these psich drugs create is something very interesting. We should start to investigate on the subject and see what the conclusions are once we have gathered enough evidence based on real cases, not on especulation or “opinions” even when these come from “authorities”. I mean real facts. Whata about that?

  • I feel that no one should be judged for what they do or not do until you have walked a day in that person’s shoes. A person cannot tell you what did or did not help you. Only you can decide that. To discredit a large group of professionals you would have to know a lot more facts to go on then just trying to promote one belief scientology. Psychiatrists and Psychologists don’t just hand out medication. They also help individuals cope with life. They adapt the treatment to fit the individuals needs. Actually Tom Cruise contradicted himself when he said “When you talk about postpartum, you can take people today, women, and what you do is you use vitamins. There is a horomonal thing that is going on, scientifically, you can prove that. But when you talk about emotional, chemical imbalances in people, there is no science behind that. You can use vitamins to help a woman through those things.” Emotions and mood are controlled by hormones. A horomal imbalance will then cause a chemical imbalance because the neurotransmitters cannot function properly without the adequete supply of horomones. Then on the other hand a person can have the right balance of hormones in effect causing an adequete amount of chemicals but the person’s receptor sites may not function adquetely. The person then is chemically imbalanced causing changes in emotions and mood. There is scientific evidence backing up this notion. Although the medication will not cure the mental disorder, it can help people cope better. Along with medication it is recommended to take vitamins, exercise, and seek counseling. I will not comment on scientology because I do not know enough about it. I am very open minded and do not try to trample on other peoples beliefs while at the same time I do not expect them to believe what I believe. I just wanted to state that there is a physical component to mental illness and it is not just spiritual. Spirituality does play a role in the problem as well.

  • We cannot judge anyone based on one single comment when only one line or phrase is quoted and focussed on AND widely spread through out the internet with lots of sites being able to draw conclusions based on partial information, without the entire ‘picture’ being clear.
I would be wise to realise it’s only ONE comment and in cases like that we should try to see the complete story on the matter before drawing conclusions (by asking that person for more information, what exacty he means) or when that isn’t possible, to lay this aside as something we don’t know the whole story or his opinion about leave it like that!

  • P.S.: And NOT to bug a nice girl like Annie about the above mentioned!! grrr!!!

  • congratulationts! for tha job, thank you! and We like the new layout.
Beautiful body, all in all, He is in his great moment.

    all in all!.

    Your fan Aurora.

  • Why are you so on the defensive and rude…

  • I am not bella ;)
I’m a little worried by now, it’s hard for some fans, you know; but I understand you.

  • WOTW trailer is so exciting. I can’t wait for the release of the movie. I think we are all going to enjoy this one big time!!!
