“ET” Names Tom Cruise Top Star Of 2006

“Entertainment Tonight” recently revealed their No.1 Hollywood star of 2006. The popular TV show announced on Tuesday that Tom Cruise has been selected as the year’s “Top Star Of The Year.”

For the past two years, Oprah was the winner of the show’s top spot, but that quickly changed this year. However, the queen of talk still made it on the list, coming in at sixth place.

Tom’s wife, Katie Holmes, came in ahead of Oprah at number five and one of Hollywood’s biggest love triangles – Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston -were also included in the top ten.

Three A-list female celebrities that were removed from this year’s list included Britney Spears, Julia Roberts and Jennifer Lopez.(Source: AllHeadlineNews.com)

Who’s the hottest star of 2006? Is it JENNIFER ANISTON? GEORGE CLOONEY? Each year, ET ranks the top 20 stars of the year — based on who received the most mentions on the show over the course of the year — and tonight, we’ve got the “ET Hot List”!

“It has been a huge, fascinating year for celebrity news,” says ET Executive Producer LINDA BELL BLUE. “And now we have ranked those stars and public figures that have been at the forefront of 2006′s news as reported by Entertainment Tonight.”

OPRAH WINFREY slips down to No. 6 this year after spending two years back-to-back at No. 1. Previous title holders include JENNIFER LOPEZ in 2003 and Jennifer Aniston in 2002.

So who made the grade this year? Why, none other than TOM CRUISE! Tom tops the list due to our extensive and exclusive coverage of his fairytale Italian wedding to KATIE HOLMES (who ranked No. 5), the birth of baby SURI and his ‘M:i:III’ mission.

With the birth of SHILOH NOUVEL JOLIE-PITT and the press following their every move around the world from L.A. to Africa and India, BRAD PITT and ANGELINA JOLIE moved up to the top five this year at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively, sharing the space with ANNA NICOLE SMITH at No. 4, whose joyful birth of baby DANNIELYNN and commitment to HOWARD K. STERN was marred by the tragic death of her 20-year-old son, DANIEL, in September.

Stars making the Top 10 include JESSICA SIMPSON, newly engaged “Desperate Housewives” star EVA LONGORIA and Oscar winner George Clooney. Other honorable mentions on the list include LINDSAY LOHAN, NICK LACHEY, REESE WITHERSPOON, TERI HATCHER, TORI SPELLING, NICOLE KIDMAN and “Dr. McDreamy” himself, PATRICK DEMPSEY.

And who is notably absent from the “Hot List”? You may be surprised to learn that MEL GIBSON, despite his infamous DUI arrest and anti-Semitic rant this year, did not crack the top 20. BRITNEY SPEARS and JULIA ROBERTS also failed to make the list this year.

  It’s always nice to here some positive news about Tom. He is #1 and always will be as far as I am concerned. It’s the cynical media that keep making up negative things about him, to me that sounds like brainwashing. They try to make people feel negatively toward him, but for those of us believers in Tom Cruises magic and star power, it’ll never happen. Now more than ever, his fans need to support his every move and wish him luck with his next movie and especially his personal life. TOM CRUISE FANS UNITE AND KEEP SMILING!!!!!

  Rainey, I’m agreed with you 100 percent. Most of the negative stuff the media made up proved to be false. I pray that Tom will overcome his adversarry and have a happy life with Katie and Suri. Glad to hear the ET news. Any good news about Tom is like a fresh air in a poluted cynical media.

  This is great news from ET. It is a no brainer as Dana said. I also agree with Rainey. Tom Cruise can take such pride in this with all the negative junk written about him this past year. That just proves that Tom is unstoppable no matter what is written about him. Notice that Sumner Redstone did not make the list. Message there somewhere??? Tom is a great actor, and a great person with class!!! I watched the Barbara Walters special last night with her top 10 most fasinating people of 2006 waiting to see who the number 1 person was. I thought for sure it was going to be Tom Cruise but it was Nancy Pelosi. Like who cares about her!!!! Barbara Walters should know better. Anyway cudos to ET for voting Tom Terrific #!1 and Katie #5. Thanks for sharing that with all us Tom fans out here!!!!!!

  Bandari, I don’t visit anymore to Imdb.com Tom Cruise. It’s now the forum for Tom’s haters. It’s too bad Imdb lets the haters took over a used to be fun forum into a filthy and mean anti Tom board. Tom is still the cool and hot actor. He’s a sweetheart too.
