Tom Cruise will present BEST DIRECTOR at the Oscars. Keep an eye out, folks!

Benevolent Cruise Helps The Homeless

Movie superstar Tom Cruise was so moved by the plight of homeless people near his film set recently – he immediately moved to ease their problems.

The Last Samurai hunk was shooting upcoming thriller Collateral in a downtown area of Los Angeles when he saw a group of street dwellers living nearby.

And Cruise was so horrified by their living condition he sent his assistant out to buy them blankets, pillows, sleeping bags and coats.

More Box office stats from last week:

* 3rd highest-grossing R-rated film of all-time

* 4th biggest Warner Bros. film of all-time behind Harry Potter, Harry Potter 2 and The Matrix Reloaded

* 2nd biggest Tom Cruise film of all-time behind Missions: Impossible 2.

In Japan, The Last Samurai continued to strong business in its 12th weekend, grossing an estimated $1.6m (¥173.5m) – a drop of only 21%. The estimated cumulative total to date of $115.2m (¥12.593b) establishes the following records:

* All-Time Biggest R-rated Film

* 3rd Biggest Warner Bros. Film behind Harry Potter and Harry Potter 2

* 11th Highest Industry Grosser

* No. 1 Tom Cruise Film of All-Time

The Last Samurai also broke records for the No. 1 Tom Cruise film in Italy ($24.1m) and Spain ($22m – where it is now the 3rd biggest Warner Bros. film of all-time).

Europe (incl. Eastern Europe) grossed an estimated $5.4m, bringing the cumulative total to $143m

Asia/Pacific – the cumulative total is $31.2m.

Latin America – the cumulative total is $21.1m

  I’m very happy for all those news of the box office. THE LAST SAMURAI is one of the best pictures I’ve never seen (and I don’t say that because is a Tom’s movie)and although the awards haven’t did justice with that beautiful movie, what is better award than the audience’s recognition?

  It’s wonderful to see that even without the academy recognition, TLS is still going very strong at the international Box Office. I saw on a site that the total international gross so far comes to $413 million and pluss the total gross in America that comes to $110 million. I don’t know if that’s right, let’s hope so.
  TLS is a wonderful movie. I loved it. And Tom rocks…. in everything.

Oscar News

The nominees for the 75th Annual Academy Awards © were announced this morning in L.A. Minority Report only recieved one nomination fo “Best Sound Editing”. The Oscars will be held on March. 23
