• (…)Just this week, Tom Cruise’s The Last Samurai, a martial arts drama set in a period of great civil unrest and warfare in Japan, reached $112 million in Japan. In America, the film is ending its run with a strong but yet disappointing (given the film’s $130 million budget), run with $110 million. (…)

    • Thanks for the article, the Japanese (and fans around the world) are bringing shame to an US audience which is giving over 49 millions to an idiotic flic like 50 first dates on its opening week-end! But let’s put everything in perspective, and underline that, although TLS SHOULD have had a bigger BO in the US, it still makes 20 millions more than Master & Commander and Cold Mountain, notwithstanding Miramax manoeuvers and WB disloyalty. And THAT tells something! Tom rules! Lili

    • I just love the heading of that article by rediff.com which states:
      “Tom Cruise is Tom Cruise”
Well, it says it all, WELL DONE!!!!

    • Well well, WB, I hope that’s a nice slap in the face for you:p Looks like Tom Cruise fans have totally taken the bushido code of honour to heart!

    • You shouldn’t trust american audiences. TLS is a wonderful movie and Tom is amazing in it, but unfortunally only international audiences were able to appreciate it. And the movie made more than “master and comander” which is up for best picture at the upcoming oscars. And I saw “master and comander”, to tell the truth for me is just a peace of crap, with capital C. I hated it. It was one of the worst movies I have ever seen in my life. Tom rules, TLS rules, and is still going pretty strong overseas. WONDERFUL!! WELL DONE!!!

    • One day Tom will do a mediocre film (I guess that is just about possible) and it will be a great hit and gain him an Oscar – well this seems to work for other actors!!!!

    • Hey, don’t think all Americans (I’m one) didn’t appreciate TSL. I LOVED!!!!!!!!! that movie. And I did my part to help the box office, paid to see it 4 times (so far.) xo xo Connie
