Tom Cruise
Yesterday I posted The Edge’s experience when they met Tom. Here is a more detailed descrition. This is how JAY JAY described her experience:
“You’ll NEVER guess what I did yesterday ??? You know how Tom Cruise is in New Plymouth filming his new movie ‘The Last Samurai’? Well, WE MET HIM !!! (Jase, Dom, Becs and me). In February he called our show and spoke to us for 18 minutes, after we offered $5000 to anyone who could get him to call us. He called himself and asked us to raise our bounty to $7000 and together we gave $14 000 to Urenui school to build a sun shade for the kids.
Then, last month, we organised a huge human banner with the people of Taranaki dressed in black, spelling out the words TOMINAKI on the ground. The Daily News took the photo, and Tom saw it in the paper!!
Dom emailed Tom’s “people” in LA to ask where to send the pic and they suggested we deliver it to Tom in person. So, we were given directions to the secret location of the Samurai set and we went and saw Tom filming for an hour. It was so surreal … and THEN, he came over and talked to us for half an hour ! We gave him presents (a few NZ music Cds, gifts listeners had sent us, and the Tominaki picture) and he was STOKED !! He almost cried !!
We weren’t allowed to take photos, or get autographs, but his photographer took some pics and Tom will send them to us. We then went and had lunch with all the stars of the movie and then Tom invited us back to his trailer to watch the promo for the movie !!
His trailer was amazing. A big plasma screen tv, surrounded by framed photos of him and Penelope, and him and his kids. He LOVES his family.
It was the most incredible day of my life and I still can’t believe it happened.
He kissed and hugged me THREE times !!! I never wanna wash again !!
He’s the most divine man. So enchanting and mesmerising. He is so genuine and sincere, and I can see why no-one has a bad word to say about him.
Tom Cruise, I LOVE YOU !!
JAY-JAY XOX”.
Well we already know how great Tom is!

Tom Cruise
Cruise arrived at the park’s cricket ground by helicopter, with the film’s other big names.
When action was called, loud gunfire sounded around the park, with Cruise being heard saying, “go on, shoot me”.
Just then, as filming was in full-swing, the carillon on Marsland Hill chimed out its two o’clock tune, which promptly stopped the filming, but had Cruise and the rest of the cast and crew chuckling with amusement. The filming back at the park is believed to have been to re-shoot some scenes. As well as the film’s leading stars being on set, dozens of Japanese men in black uniforms and hats sat on the terraces waiting for their cue for action.
As word of the filming spread, dozens of people gathered at Pukekura Park’s main gate and at other vantage points, trying to get a glimpse of the action. Cruise was back at work after spending the weekend sightseeing in Queenstown, with partner Penelope Cruz.
