Tom to be honored by ‘Mentor LA’ with Gala event

Mentor LA (MLA), a nonprofit organization dedicated to revitalizing the schools and neighborhoods of some of the most disenfranchised communities in Los Angeles will honor Tom Cruise at it inaugural LA’s Promise Gala, March 22, 2007 at the historic Twentieth Century Fox studio lot in Century City.

Chaired by (…) Paula Wagner and Rick Nicita [and others], the star-studded evening will pay tribute to Cruise’s longstanding commitment to working for positive change in the world.

“Mentor LA is extremely fortunate to have such an extraordinary supporter in Tom Cruise”, said MLA president Mike McGalliard, “We are very grateful to him for accepting this honor, and prviding us an opportunity to showcase Mentor LA’s work to improve schools and empower neighborhoods in the most underserved areas of our city. Tom is not only a worldwide box-office superstar and an amazing actor; he is also a devoted humanitarian and philanthropist.” “Our future on both a city-wide and a national level is dependent on educating and empowering the next generation,” said Cruise, “LA’s schools face tremendous obstacles. And, Mentor LAhas the right formula for success – it transforms public schools into great learning by bronging the best ideas, resources and innovations to schools that have the most need.”

  What a wonderful honor for Tom. I am sure this means more to him than any oscar could. Tom is a great humanitarian and its about time he was recognized for it. I believe he helps so many people without ever whispering a word to the public. That’s just the way he is. He keep his charity work anonymous, which makes Tom even more magical than ever. I wish Tom and his beautiful family congratulations and many years of love and happyness.

  Ths is wonderful news. It is great to see positive things about this wonderful humanitarian. Enough lies are printed about him and he has so much class he doesn’t even acknowledge them. He is such a fantastic actor and human being. Thank you for sharing this story. I can guarantee this website is the only place that it will be mentioned. The media does not want to print good things about this good man. He is so deserving of this honor and I can tell you that it probably means a lot more to him than an Oscar. It has much more substance to it than on Oscar although as a fan I think he should have had 10 or more by now. This award will mean more to him. Thanks for sharing this with his devoted fans. I love TOM TERRIFIC!!!!!!

  FINALLY!!!! Cruise’s continuous efforts to make this world a better place – has been acknowledged and his efforts have been praised in the best form possible. SIR TOM CRUISE this is the title, i have been waiting for him to get. Let’s see what happens next. After long negative attention and crucification by the media for expressing his love (jumping on the crouch) for Kate, this man will get exactly what he deserves…an AWARD & the RIGHT ONE.

  Hooray to the Cruise’s!! Congratulations TOM for all the good works you did to everyone especially the kids.. GOD will always bless youand your Family with Good Health. I never miss a movie of TOM that i used to rent in the library coz i cannot afford a movie..
  I hope TOM someday i can reach you and help me a little bit with the school fees of my three(3) kids in college(my oldest boy taking up medicine and my 2 girls also in college)and I’m helping four (4) of my nieces -nephews in school too.Two of them in college and two younger ones in high school who’s father(a Doctor)was shot dead by as muslim terrorist where he is serving as a Doctor in a depressed area in my hometown ,Mindanao in the Philippines. Until now bombing still going on in my hometown thats why I came to America to work hard for this kids so someday they all can join me here in Chicago.
  I’m working taking care of hospice people and due to much lifting and with my age (54 y.o.), I got some back and neck issues that needs surgery anytime but because the kids are all in school and i’m a single mom for 18 years I kind of kept postponing my surgery coz my income is just enough that if i will stop for awhile then their school will be stopped too.
