Reuters reports that Germany has turned down a request by Tom Cruise to shoot scenes for Mission: Impossible 3 in the famous Reichstag parliament building’s giant glass and steel dome. Cruise was in the capital last month to scout locations for the second sequel, which starts shooting later this year.

One of his favorite locations was the 130-feet diameter dome on the top of the parliament building, said a spokesman for the Studio Babelsberg production firm near Berlin, which is working with Cruise to find locations.

But the German parliament turned down the request to film there. “The building is not available as a film location and we refuse point blank every request to use it as such,” said a spokesman for Parliament President Wolfgang Thierse. “It is about maintaining the dignity of the parliament.”

As a German citizen I just like to throw in how stupid Germans are. Thank God, I always have considered myself as being an American although I don’t have any roots back there. But that’s enough from me – I’m just mad now. Germany can be lucky to say that Tom was interested in filming here but oh well.

  • Kind of stupid of them to say ‘no’! It only gives everybody the feeling that they are oldfashion and boring instead of modern and young! With turning down this request they only in a way do themselves short with this, not Tom.

  • I don’t think it’s fair to speak that way about german people just because of a stupid decision of the german government.
you can be sure germans do not always agree with the opinion of their government.
it would have been great to see the Reichstag in m:i 3.

  • Yeah I know, I’m always extreme when it comes to my home country. Of course not all Germans think alike like those who forbid the M-I:3 team to shoot there. So once and for all, only German politicians are stupid. ;) *lol*

  • I am a German citizen, on my way to become an American Citizen. I think that the German Government has taken the wrong step in not allowing Tom to film part of his movie at the parliament. They are talking about dignity. I believe the Government lost it’s dignity, when they joined in with the French and went against the US. So who needs them, Tom will find a much better location and Germany will regret it.

  • is it allowed to film in the white house?

  • I am feeling very sorry for Tom !

  • Janine wrote: only German politicians are stupid. ;)

Not all politicians agreed with Thierse !

  • Why doesn’t Tom change the script to include *any* “parliamentary reference” ?

  • the reichstag is just one of many other locations in berlin, where tom wants to film. so i don’t now where the problem is.

  • Tom is in love with the “cupola” of the Reichstag :-)
