You can already see the trailer: From the author who brought you Jason Bourne! And the visionary director who blew your mind with “Scanners” and broke your heart with “A History of Violence”! Tom Cruise…and Denzel Washington in…“The Matarese Circle”!!
It pretty much screams Hollywood blockbuster, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves. For all the ink spilled in the trades and on the Internet over the adaptation of the Robert Ludlum novel, MGM has not yet green-lit the ‘Matarese’ project. In an exclusive interview with the man pegged to both write and direct, David Cronenberg revealed to MTV News that the movie, while still on track, is not yet a done deal—because there are neither contracts with the stars nor a final script in place.
“Nobody has signed on,” Cronenberg said. “The Hollywood is term is ‘attached.’ Nobody actually knows what that means. It’s a very abstract, almost religious concept.”
The bottom line, and why he’s certain the film will move foward, Cronenberg explained, is that “Denzel is very interested in the idea of doing a movie with Tom Cruise and with me. It will depend on him loving the script and then signing on. At the moment we don’t have a script that we’re ready to show.”
Well, we can take one film off of Tom Cruise’s very long What Movie I Might Do Next list. The actor has bowed out of the Warner Bros. drama The 28th Amendment, to be directed by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck (The Lives of Others). In fact, Cruise was never officially attached to the film from Star Trek screenwriters Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. Evidently, his “discussions” were literally just discussions.
So the actor, who surprised with last year’s successful Valkyrie, is still deciding on his next starring vehicle. Sources say the two most likely projects are the MGM-produced Matarese Circle with Denzel Washington and director David Cronenberg, or Spyglass’ remake of The Tourist, scripted by Valkyrie writer Christopher McQuarrie, in which Cruise would star opposite Charlize Theron. He is also attached to DreamWorks’ Motorcade, with Len Wiseman directing. Sources have said that Cruise bowed out of this project, too, but DreamWorks confirmed Tuesday that it’s still on and in early script stages with writer Billy Ray (State of Play). The two Fox projects Cruise has attached his name to are also still developing. Wichita, opposite Cameron Diaz, is being rewritten by Scott Frank (The Lookout), and the studio just hired Ed Solomon to rewrite Hardy Men, in which Cruise would possibly star opposite Ben Stiller.

Rumor has it, Tom Cruise has revealed that a fourth ‘Mission: Impossible’ movie is in early stages and that he’s currently working on the story.
Speculation of another “Mission: Impossible” movie being developed has been broken out by the film series’ star Tom Cruise. Ain’t It Cool News reported that the depicter of I.M.F. point man Ethan Hunt suggested that he has started working on “Mission: Impossible 4″ while appearing on a popular Japanese program, SMAP SMAP.
Asked about the “Mission: Impossible” franchise, the 46-year-old fessed up that “he’s working on the story right now”. Not only that, he allegedly commented that he has been thinking on “how to stage a big action sequence in downtown Tokyo” following his visit to Japan. Still, it should be noted that despite Cruise’s remark, official announcement is yet to be released.
The last “Mission: Impossible” movie seen in theaters was “Mission: Impossible 3″. Released on May 5, 2006, it opened with $47.7 million bow on its first weekend in the U.S. and then continued to rake in the worldwide total of $397.9 million. While it received mostly average to positive critics, the action movie couldn’t top the earning of either “Mission: Impossible” or its first sequel, “Mission: Impossible 2″.

—Peter Travers, Rolling Stone“VALKYRIE is a meticulous thriller… The two best supporting performances are by Kenneth Branagh, and Tom Wilkinson, as a general who artfully plays both sides of the fence.”

Katie Holmes has got one up on best pal Victoria Beckham – her child wins in the style stakes.
Suri, the actress’s daughter with hubby Tom Cruise, was named the best dressed celebrity child in a recent poll. The two-year-old beat Victoria and David’s kids Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz, leaving the boys in second place in the poll by kids clothing company Chatterpants.
Also on the list were Myleene Klass’s daughter Ava and Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s ever-expanding brood. Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Knox and Vivienne made it into fourth place despite the fact Knox was recently seen sporting a flat cap to match his megastar dad’s.
Next on the list were Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale’s children Kingston and baby Zuma, who are often seen sporting bright colours to match their mum’s outlandish style.
Madonna’s children – Lourdes, Rocco and adopted son David -have to make do with sixth place, despite Lourdes having a wardrobe that would be the envy of girls twice her age.
It seems that no celebrity kid can match up to the exacting standards of Tom and Katie’s little princess Suri.

Von Donnersmarck eyeing presidential drama
Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck is in talks to direct Warner Bros. drama “The 28th Amendment,” which has emerged as a strong contender to be one of Tom Cruise’s next star vehicles.
The German helmer hasn’t directed a film since his 2006 pic “The Lives of Others” won the foreign-language film Oscar, and he recently signed with UTA to move into Hollywood films.According to sources, the filmmaker is in talks with the studio to make the movie with Cruise. “Star Trek” scribes Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, the duo that originated the project as a spec in 1999, are rewriting the script.
The drama revolves around a U.S. president who discovers the existence of a secret cabal that runs the government and wants him dead.
Basil Iwanyk and Richard Donner are producers.
Cruise had been mentioned as being keen on the movie last year, possibly to pair with Denzel Washington, but chatter on the film died down.
Cruise came off “Valkyrie” with an aggressive mission to find new projects — he is currently considering five different pictures for two potential 2009 slots — but “28th Amendment” recently emerged as a strong candidate, its chances helped by the highly regarded von Donnersmarck.
Among the other projects Cruise is considering is MGM’s “The Matarese Circle”; Spyglass’ “The Tourist”; DreamWorks’ “Motorcade”; Fox’s “Wichita”; and Universal/Working Title’s “Lost for Words.”

Reuters calls it “a long-gestating Warner Bros. project about conspiracy and intimidation at the White House” and adds that:
“Amendment” has been described as “The Firm” set in the White House. Its premise is that for a good part of the 20th century, the president has been the puppet of a small, lethal gang that kills anyone who defies its wishes (JFK did and paid the price, according to one iteration of the script).
Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman’s film Eyes Wide Shut has topped a poll of the 20 most underrated movies.
The Stanley Kubrick film, in which Tom and Nicole starred while they were still a couple in 1999, was voted into first place by readers of totalfilm.com.
It was followed by Quentin Tarantino’s Jackie Brown and Terry Gilliam’s Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas, which starred Hollywood heartthrob Johnny Depp.
Also in the top 20 was the late Heath Ledger’s romcom 10 Things I Hate About You, and Tom Hanks’ widely panned Cast Away.
Ralph Fiennes’ Strange Days and Tom Cruise’s movie Vanilla Sky also made it into the list of underrated flicks.
